Chuggers now calling to the front door

Unfortunately this happened to me less than an hour ago, minding my own business when a chugger knocked on the front door.

Used the exact same tactics as the ones on the street. The girl annoyed me instantly with the forceful and the emotional blackmailing language. They were collecting for orphanages in Haiti - using the example of 33 girls after been abducted into the sex industry. Obviously this is horrific - and help should be given.

But it is the tactics of the chugger are disgraceful. She bullied for ten euro a month to be given for six or so months - direct debit from a bank account. I said I couldn't do this as I can't guarantee that there would be money in the account. If it wasn't there I would be penalised with bank charges.

I thought the next suggestion of hers was particularly cheeky - could you set it up for the 4th of the month - children's allowance - so passed the comment back that it changes every month - not necessarily through by the 4th, hence more charges for me. She tried to convince me by putting in €2.22 a week...

I am already on a negative budget at the moment... I really don't think she was physically able to hear that fact.

Chuggers take a wage and have the cheek to ask people on the street for money. They will look back in years to come and regret making that decision to work for parasites like that.

I don't think charities should use this means to secure funding because I, and I know other people feel the same, have decided that I WILL NEVER GIVE ANY MONEY TO ANY CHARITY THAT USES CHUGGERS EVER AGAIN.

I don't respect chuggers because their reasons to wear the name of the charity are not sincere.

I'm also sick of chuggers.

IMO they are bad publicity for a charity. Concern is very big in my local community and a lot of people do a lot of work, organising community based events and it's well respected. In contrast, many people are absolutely sick to the teeth of being approached by the Concern and other chuggers.

I'm also tired of the bag packers. I appreciate that they are trying to raise money for a good cause in most cases but I don't know anything about their charity in the vast majority of cases and I don't want to have to give money just because there's someone at the other end of the checkout willing to pack my bags. I normally avoid the checkout with the bag packers.

You're right - those of us who take it seriously don't pester and annoy... we're generally ;-) polite... Aggressive people don't last, as they give the charity a bad name!

Wow, classy and ignorant! You really got lucky in that draw! It's not to the charity of me...and if you'd any sense you'd realise that! It's a worthwhile and genuine industry - the fact that you don't see that speaks volumes! But you know, you're right, it's obviously much better to stay at home on the dole, sponging off the government and everybody that you know to boot, than actually get up off you a$$ and do something...
