Something i have noticed about the Irish people mainly cause i am Irish ha

is what we tend to come out with when someone dies.

I was never the type of person to be two faced and to change my point of view on something when its the popular thing to do. If i believe in something that's my choice i wont change just cause 100s of others do.

So really i have to laugh when a person dies the kinda crap you hear at his funeral or from people talking on the matter. Ohhh he was a great man he will be sorely missed a true gent bla bla bla .

Now this is fair enough if you taught these things when the person was alive but to be a two faced ****e and just cause someone dies you kiss their arse in hell/heaven thats just sad.

If you want a clear example of this look at the situation with Gerry Ryan right now. Yes he was a well respected and very famous person down through the years in Ireland. Yes he was one of a kind at his job and will probley never be replaced.

BUT the crap i am hearing from the bloody do gooders now makes me sick.
All you had to do was look at the Gerry Ryan show thread on here couple weeks ago full of posts about how big a fool he is how he talks ****e how he shouldn be allowed on air for the things he comes out with at that hour morning. The guy who booed in public at an event not that long ago im sorry but the whole country didnt love Gerry :rolleyes:

But wow look at this we now have 1000s of sheep flocking to pay there respects to some man who they didnt bloody well know or give two ****es about when he was just auld ''Alive and well'' Gerry.

Fair enough if you actually liked him that much when he was alive and you listened to his show every morning grand fair play.

But the crap im seeing all over the papers the internet tv so on really its just Micheal Jackson all over again Irish style :rolleyes: .

And if you reply to this thread with ohh respect the man think bout his family then this simple statement will answer your question.

I have respect for what he did on radio and tv i have respect for his style and how he went about his job but thats all i never knew him he was just another celeb to me i am not gonna cry break down and give up my life just cause Gerry Ryan died so live with it ffs.

If Sean Fitzpatrick died I doubt people would be wringing their hands over it. It depends on the person and although people may have found Gerry Ryan annonying I doubt they really hated him, he was more a loveable rogue type than hate figure.

Having been a fan, listened and eventually getting to see some of the funeral, I was moved by it all.

I can't remember who gave the mid speech after the gospel but that was one very well thought out and written speech, not to mention very well read as well.

I can't see how anyone there would have had such a two faced view about things. Maybe there was one or two, give it that. The outpouring of grief was from a catalogue of fans etc. Get over it.

Jade Goodie died. You didn't hear me giving it socks about how she was this or that, although she did have a hard life, still an irritating individual.

OP, you seem not to be able to differentiate between having a grudging respect for someone you might not favour but respect for the position they held and some good they did - against someone else that is just a right down right villain (like Bin Laden but he's still alive. A lot of people didn't have any time for him, me included. Having said that, those who did, have a right to express their grief, or sense of loss at his passing. It is one of the most normal reactions in the human psyche.

I agree that the media & public reaction to celebrity deaths can be a tad over-the-top, and while I would be the first to think it, but I wouldn't want to be the first idiot to stand up & shout about it.

When someone dies we tend to keep our mouths shut, if they aren't total ****.

Like, Gerry Ryan was an annoying DJ to me, personally, but it's not like he punched me in the face or whatever, so I'm not sure I'd start bitching about him. I don't see the point of picketing the funeral.

I gave Haughey far less time, and FitzPatrick, et al, will get a certain amount less understanding. But Ryan was only a bloody dj.

OP I think it depends on the respect people have for the person that dies. So for example I wouldn't be a huge fan of Eamonn Dunphy but I still respect him to an extent and whilst I wouldn't be inconsolable if he died, I would understand that it would affect a lot of people and I'd naturally understand that. This is the same for Gerry Ryan - I feel sorry for his family, I acknowledge his success in radio and the mark he left and for that reason it's a sad loss for the country and people's grief is understandable. If I don't respect the person that dies (Jade Goody, Katy French) then I am puzzled when they are called "The People's Princess" or "Ireland's Princess Diana" and feel the media coverage is over the top and disingenous. But I don't think that applies to Gerry Ryan's death
