Is childbirth really as painful as women make out

ok. A while back my oh was getting a pretty big tattoo done on her thigh which she nearly cried the whole way through. at one point she said it was worse than giving birth and it got me thinking. I got a tattoo done in the same place and while it was really sore it was bearable. so i'm thinking is childbirth really as sore as women make out or do they just use it cause they know we can never say otherwise?

I never understood women using this as some sort of get out of jail free card everytime a man complains about any sort of pain.

I mean at the end of the day does anyone sit a woman down and force her to have kids and give birth ??

Everything is nice and light.
Fast forward 6 months and the next thing you know he's fallen in love with you.He goes all soft when he sees kids in the park.
Then BAM, you're in bed on Sunday morning and it's all "When are we getting married?" "When are we having kids??"

Then you've got to dump him and YOU look like the bitch.

No not painful at all. My other half gave birth to our 3 girls and I never felt the slightest bit of pain.
I remember it being like a summers breeze,we sat and conversed, nurse said push, baby born. The End.
Now, the gas offered by the nurse may have impaired my judgement some what, but i'm pretty sure thats how it happened.

So, short of it all, NO PAIN!

That's the thing though NN - seeing as it's what women are designed to do, why then is it sometimes so gruesome?

It all depends on the woman too though, e.g. her build, age, the size of the baby - a number of factors. My gran is the most squeamish person I know - every little scratch is a big drama for her, and she says she had no bother with any of her five.

Lab experiments have shown that women have a lower pain threshold than men.

But that would imply that the pain of childbirth is subjectively worse for a woman e.g. let's say childbirth is 1000 "pain units" and a woman's pain threshold is 900 while a man's is 1100. Therefore the man would experience the same pain as less severe than the woman. Sorry, is this getting a bit too philosophical?

(In the experiments men and women were subjected to the same pain stimulus. On average women pulled away from the pain source before men did. But of course they can't "pull away" when giving birth although nowadays you can get an epidural. And some people disagree with the above interpretation of the experiments.)

My gran had nine kids, apparently towards the last few it was all she could do to hold them in :pac:

I have given birth twice and I found it grand actually. The 2nd time I sat up in the bed and played cards with my OH and even in the throes of labour I was still able to beat him. I did grab himself by the neck during the pushing part (I thought it was the collar of his top) and he ended up in tears because he didnt want to upset me by saying anything.

I also didn't get one stitch or one stretch mark. Also, I have never, ever used it in an argument. He still loves me even after seeing a baby coming out of my vag. He's suffered enough.
