It's hard to imagine anyone how present there would not be concerned. He's witnessed one of the worst natural disasters of modern times. Some of his staff were killed. What the hell did you expect?

I note you did not mention that his company has already donated a lot of money to the relief effort.

Erm, Digicel has already donated over $5 million to the relief effort as well as maintaining the mobile phone network and donating $2 million in call credit to their customers in Haiti. Digicel operate in the country and I'm sure O'Brien knows many of his staff who were killed or injured, over 500 employees are missing.

It would be great to see the EU have the same willpower to power ahead with the relief effort as O'brien and Digicel.

perhaps, the Irish public should claim "credit" for any donations Digicel give.
Considering how we bank rolled O'Brien through that lovely fella from North Tipp (Lowry).

Very unfair on the OP. Either of you see the newstalk.ie article about the quake that amongst a load of relevant information randomly stuck in the fact that "a company called Digicel has donated $5 to the tragedy".

It stuck out like a sore thumb in the article. Felt totally out of place. If he's doing it out of the goodness of his heart, why did he feel the need to place the information in a newstalk article?

Cynicism is a healthy thing here if you ask me.

He has done great work for the victims. And it deserves to be commended.

But demanding more money from the EU and other own government does raise the old question about where he thinks governments get their money from? He was very tax-shy when he had the chance to put his personal money where his mouth is.

You see that is what these people, Bono, Michael D Higgins, Fergus Finlay, Dennis O'Brien,John O'Shea et al, now honest people in their own right, but never behind the door looking for our money do things, not their own personal dosh.

Mass media coverage has tried to give the impression by calling it the Haitian rather than the Port-au-Prince earthquake that the whole of the Haitian part of the island was in a state of total devastation and that aid from the outside world was the Haitians only hope. Well it is true that this is the Haitians only hope but what the mass media don't want to be explored is the reason why this is the case.

Would you think from the mass media coverage or rather selective coverage that Haiti's second city "Cap-Haïtien (Okap or Kapayisyen in Kréyòl) is a city of about 180,000 people on the north coast of Haiti. It is the capital of the Nord Department." has been totally unaffected by the quake?

In a Western or East Asian society (apropos "The 2008 Sichuan earthquake or the Great Sichuan Earthquake was a deadly earthquake that measured at 8.0 and 7.9 occurred at 14:28:01.42 CST (06:28:01.42 UTC on May 12, 2008 in Sichuan province of China and killed at least 68,000 people") help and aid would have come in from the outside. Uninjured people would be helping rescue workers; teams would be being spontaneously formed. Nothing like that happened in Haiti.

This is a society already on welfare provided from abroad.
The reason that it was so important a catastrophe for Haitians that the UN building were destroyed is that they were already feeding around 2 million Haitians anyway.
This was a broken down mal-functioning dys-functional society before the arrival of this terrible quake whose only claim to fame is as a massive source of Aids and an ever expanding population which had so stripped the island's soil of it's natural productivity and cover that any strong storm leads to catastrophic floods.

The multi-cultists cannot have their contrived image that ethnicity or race is irrelevant to how people behave. The total lack of anything approaching a civil society with levels of organisation that can respond in a crisis must be hidden.

Somehow they were going to make this into a mindless rescue mission where the impression to be assiduously and constantly foisted on the Western public was of levels of devastation and suffering which were incalculable and at such a pitch that had never before been experienced by mankind.
Only outside assistance could be contemplated due to supposed complete destruction of the country's infrastructure and services and of course there always was going to be delays built into this so blame could be deflected away from the Haitian's own lack of response.
By such manipulation of the message they seek to bypass any lingering doubts in the minds of a watching Western public about the lack of any apparent domestic Haitian response (apart from trying to imply that looting and hijacking vehicles was a normal response).

So the usual suspect poser-personalities have been brought into play.
A constant bombardment of images of injured or lost children but never a question is allowed to be asked about why so many died and why there has been a complete lack of response to organising rescue work from within the Haitians own society.
The only organisation displayed so far appears to be hijackings and looting.

A pretence of a normal society afflicted by an abnormal event is the dishonest and manipulative image being played out but no other would be allowed anyway in a state and society where political correctness has a totalitarian grip on those who perform nightly on our TV screens and write what passes for normal "informed consensus" opinion in the printed media.
