Is Cork the poor relative when it comes to gigs?

When you compare the bands that play in Dublin (obviously a better draw) but more so that Roisin Dubh gets and even Limerick. Looking at Cyprus avenues upcoming gigs there is very little that excites me. And the opera house rarely has anything worth going to. I know we have the gigs in the big tent near Pairc Ui Caoimh in the summer, but most of these are crap anyway!

Cyprus avenue is well bigger than Roisin Dubh yet they can pull a lot more interesting acts on a regular basis...

Size isnt everything.....Dolans is my fave venue in the country

Ya it sucks big time. Biggest county, 2nd biggest city - there really is f*** all on. I think the line up at the marquee was pretty good though. Something for everyone but that's only on for a few weeks over the summer. I went to Kanye West which was really good.

But other than that I've had to travel. Went up to U2 & I'm going to Coldplay on Monday. I went to EP as well at the weekend. I don't mind for stuff like that but can't be travelling up every week for smaller gigs.

I'd love to go to Florence & the Machine/Temper Trap gig in the Olympia in December and Passion Pit in The Academy in November. There are venues in Cork big enough to hold these kind of events.

yes, I think Cork is pretty poor for gigs.
Maybe it's a case of lowered expectations and people pay to see any auld rubbish so why would promoters try harder! Or maybe it's a case of the people down here don't care what event they go to, as long as they get hammered.

Ok I posted this a few weeks ago, since then there has been somewhat of an improvement. I saw Julie Feeney in the pav weeks ago. And here is what is coming up in the next few weeks. If you want more details check em out yourself:) Add more to this if ye have them! All these bar one are on tickets.ie which is cheaper that other vendors as far as I know...

well i think in the case of the Rosin Dubh, a lot of it is down to the fella who books the bands, Gugai, who is an absolute legend and has pretty much made the place punch well above its weight (it is a tiny venue). so maybe in Cork bookers/promoters just need to pull their fingers out
