Well there is a starbucks in UCC. They use all the coffea/tea and branded cups etc etc that starbucks use but just dont have the name.

A proper starbucks! The one in UCC doesn't feel like a real one. And The coffee isn't as good, even though it does come close :P I mean a Starbucks with big couches and random artsy people hanging around writing memoirs

Definitely better public transport, as a few people have mentioned.

Think Cork could also benefit from having certain shops like H&M and Urban Outfitters in the CC.
Cork's a big place and the demand for such shops is definitely there.

Have you been in the CC in the last 4 or 5 weeks? H&M have already arrived!

Anyway I agree with previous psots - proper public transport and an events centre would go a long way.
Also the gardai are far too tolerant of beggars/bums/winos in the city centre who sometimes make the place feel unsafe for locals - imagine how the tourists feel.....

Cork needs a well run and efficient bus service. This does not have to mean more routes but maybe 3 - 4 that run like clockwork and can be depended on.

The nightlife is not what it could be either. We need a return to the days when there were many diverse places open til late (Sir Henry's, the KINO, Fred Zeppelins etc.) now it's all bland super clubs and pubs. More Gardai on the street at night in the CC as well.

And I must agree with Scien, an urban park would be nice...the demand is there for it, just take a look at the amount cars/people around the start of the walking route at Harty's Quay on a sunny evening/weekend.

Perhaps they could turn some of the ghost estates into adventure areas for kiddies, you know instead of little playhouses they have real houses to play in..well 'real' as in the sh*t our cowboy builders in this crooked little nation managed to sell to us all at inflated prices in the past decade :rolleyes:

Agree on a concert venue, a few more decent nightclubs would be handy as well hopefully Savoy puts a decent effort into breaking Havanas grip on the nightlife.

Would love to see a DART like commuting system for the areas like B'collig, Carrigaline etc.

Transport
1. A tram line running from Ballincollig-CIT-UCC-Washingtin St-South Mall- South Link heading back out to Carrigaline via the airport/Ballygarvan would be good. They are probably the two biggest satellite towns.
2. They could re-instate the Blarney & Blackpool stops on the Mallow commuter too.
3. They should also re-instate the line out past
South Mall-Pairc Ui Chaoimh-Blackrock-Mahon-Rochestown-Passage.
Those three lines would capture a heck of a lot of the public transport needs of the city.

Event Centre
An event centre is needed, the ideal place for it would be the current site of the R&H Hall mills are now, we don't need it to be way down by Pairc Uí Chaoimh where Marquee goes.

Coal Quay
They could (attempt) to make the Coal Quay into a Covent Garden type of area too, pedestrianise the lot off, permanently. It could be so nice.

There seems to be alot of people calling for a tram/ light rail system. I don't think the volume of people are there to justify this though. If they open the commuter rail routes out East and improve the busiest bus routes from Bishopstown/ Ballincollig/ Douglas and the Northside then that should be plenty.

Ideally I think Cork could develop into a smaller version of Barcelona??

With an emphasis on creative building designs, more open spaces, cultural events etc. There's a lot of scope to achieve this with the docklands, maybe turn R&H Hall into the conference centre we need? Paint a mural on the side of the Opera House, turn Pairc Ui Chaoibh into a multi-purpose 40,000 seater stadium, more tall buildings maybe....

Lobby your city council to flatten that eyesore in the marina that is Parc Ui Choimh (who cares how its spelt) and replace it with a municipally owned stadium that will benefit the whole city and bring in welcome visitors.
