Do you always try clothes on before you buy them?

When you go shopping do you just know your size and pick everything up in that size and check out. Then just try everything on when you get home. If so, do you find everything fits you.

Personally I have to try everying on. And if it doesn't sit right then I don't buy it. Thats why I find buying online so difficult. I love these threads and see so many fab web sites with lovely stock but I know right well if I buy something, it will arrive in the post, and something will be wrong with the way it fits me and i'll never wear it.

Same with shoes. I'm a size 39. But one foot is bigger than the other and it makes it difficult to buy shoes. Sometimes I'd love to run out the door with a 5 in one shoe and a 6 in the other. :P

If i really need something like an outfit for a wedding or party lets say I would try on.
If I was going shoppin for everyday wear I wouldn't. I know my size.. althou sometimes it does differ.

I hate trying on clothes, its always too warm in fitting rooms:pac:

it depends.............if i am shopping mwith my mum, she always makes me try clothes on.

if i am shopping by myself and the shop is quiet, i might try it on but more times than not i will pick up my size, buy it, try it on at home and if dont like it or dont like the fit, etc, i will return it.

yes i supppose i am making more work for myself but at least i can try clothes on in the comfort of my own home without feeling rushed or overly warm.

i used to work in zara and it appears that a lot of people 'buy before they try' because the returns i used to take back were crazy!

Ive bought way too many clothes that i've tried in the changing rooms only to never wear them again.Now I just buy and try them on at home before I decide whether to keep or return them

Some items I won't try on, but will try against myself, such as loose t-shirts, jumpers etc, but would usually try on dresses/jeans/shoes/jackets. However I'm terrible for seeing a reduced dress for like 3 euro in Pennys and just buying it because it's cheap, and because I'd be in the changing room queue for about half an hour.

If it is under a certain price and I know the store I will probably not bother, the worst thing that will happen is that one of my SIL will get it.

never try before i buy unless as someone else said it was for a wedding or something. its pretty disatrous though as ive piled on the weight recently and always end up with the wrong size now:rolleyes:

I never try clothes on unless its for a special occasion or the shop is so far from home that it wouldn't be worth driving back to return it.

I always try clothes on because I find some shops are mental with sizes. In most shops I'm an 8 but in Jane Norman I'm a 12. How the fook does that happen?

I always try on clothes first. Ive boobs and hips which dont seem to figure into designers ideas of the female body so you need to get an idea of how its going to look

Plus, as someone else said, sizes are crazy. And not only between brands. Went into topshop today and got a dress in a size 14 and a top in a size 8. Im usually around a 10-12.

And definitely if its sale and theres a 10 and a 12 ill try them both on, because if you bring it home and bring it back, your other size is looooooooooooong gone.

And lastly... receipts run away. They do it intentionally

Some shop fitting rooms are very deceitful also - like some shops you think you look all tanned and slim and fab. You can imagine yourself wearing this item of clothing and looking devine. Take it home and you look like a sack of potatoes. I remember a Seinfield clip about this - Elaine bought a dress in a sale and she looked awful in it - but she blamed the mirrors in the fitting room. So true.

I nearly always try them on before I buy as I find when you go back they often don't have a smaller or larger size or the item is sold out.

However I also try them on when I get home as well and find that they sometimes look different in natural light or don't suit what I was planning to wear them with.

One of the things I also take into consideration is the exchange/refund policy of the shop. I notice that many of the places I shop in now only give a refund within seven days. I find this too short so I always try on before I buy in these shops.

I'd normally try on dresses and jeans because as said above sizes are different in different shops which can be very annoying!

I often buy stuff online but if it doesn't fit I just send it back.

I'm shocked at the amount of people who don't try stuff on! I always do. I could never never buy jeans or trousers or dresses without trying them on first because how can you tell how they'll sit on your body? The various different rises on trousers and jeans means I can NEVER tell if they'll be amazing or awful! The size isn't the issue - I know my size in every shop - it's just that clothes look so different on than on the hanger.
Someone mentioned working in a shop putting you off - I work in a shop and recently just bought 3 things without trying them because I didn't want to go back into the changing rooms I had just spent all day in, but I had to return all 3 items. 2 were because the size didn't sit right on me and I just hated 1 on!
I take so much back after having spent hours in the changing rooms trying them on, that I think I would never keep anything if I didn't try them on first!

Penney's queues to try stuff on is always extremely long and because the clothes are so cheap, I usually don't bother trying them on, unless it's a pair of jeans or a dress.

With any other shop, I'd try everything on before buying it. If I'm too lazy to try stuff on, I just won't bother shopping anymore. There's no point not trying something on, only to go home and discover it looks crap on, or doesn't fit right. Might as well try it on in the shop and figure that out before handing over cash for it.

I think it's well worth trying items on. So many clothes look amazing on the hanger then turn out to be ridiculous looking on an actual person, or the shop's sizing is way off.

In Topshop/A Wear/New Look which are my usual haunts I alway try on the clothes as I am a really awkward size; I would be a size 8 but am a bit top heavy so tops never fit in the boobal region (:D) unless they are a size 12/14..but then they hang off my back cos I have a little narrow back.

Penneys wise, I sometimes do but the fitting rooms in galway are the most horrific venture..you sweat from the fear alone!! So hot!! Altho i chanced my arm and bought a dress on Saturday in a size 10 thinking it would be fine but no, went home and found I needed an 8...couldn't be bothered bringing it back so wore it anyway!!

So yes, generally I do try on things before i buy:)

If it is expensive of for an occasion, i would try it one but if its for everyday wear, I usually buy in Penneys so its easy enough to judge it by holding it up in front of you. I always try on shoes, the one time i didnt they didnt fit!! Ended up giving them to my sister!

I will always try clothes on. I fit into different sizes in different brands so it makes perfect sense.

I always try on! The only times I don't is when I'm in somewhere like New Look or Dunnes buying t shirts. But I try on everything else.
Sizing is my main problem. I'm kind of a funny shape, so jeans are very iffy as are dresses and skirts. And I hate the way sizes vary so much. I'm a 10 in tops, 12 in bottoms. But H&M :mad::mad::mad: I hate them!!! There is no way I'm a 16! Ever!

In a regular shop, a 14 is a Eur 42, but in H&M it's a 40 :mad: and they're made small! It's like they want women to be paranoid!

Depends, but if you know yourself you should know what will fit you and what you like. The only reason I try on clothes is if it's something im not sure of how it will fit me.

I always try on clothes - i'm same with sizes - i'm a size 10 normally but in some shops it can vary between an 8 - 12 - does my head in!!

The changing rooms are alway roasting too - went into Topshop recently and nearly passed out with the heat!

Apart from Penneys I try everything on! I only usually buy stuff I love though and want to see it on myself straight away to make sure. I'm really lazy about bringing stuff back as well so if it's not right it usually ends up in a charity bag somewhere!

I never try anything on ever, I shop with a measuring tape in my handbag, honestly. ANythng that fits wierd I can alter!

PS I work in a clothing shop with no fitting rooms.

I always try on no matter what shop I am in... I find some stuff is cut so badly that it might look okay on the hanger and then just sits really badly on me. I am usually a 10 but agree with H&M that there stuff is cut really small. Mind you I like their prices so....:pac:
