Nights out in Cork

I'm organising the brothers stag for the end of the month and have decided on Cork city, any ideas/suggestions about pubs/clubs to go to for a small group of lads(six or eight) aged between 30-35, don't want to end up looking like a bunch of pervs in a place full of 18-25 year olds:D

I know it might be a bit late and I don't mean to rain on your parade but the bouncers in Cork are absolute A-Holes. No word of a lie, if you laugh in the queue (and you will be queuing), stumble or even have the termity to wear runners then you're not getting in. Not to mention they can be quick with their fists...

I'm from Cork but living in Dublin and they'd carry you into the clubs here if you were after a skinful!

If I were you I'd head for Kinsale or Clonakilty go at it for the day!! More chance of a lock in too....

In fairness, 6 or 8 guys in their 30s shouldn't have much problems with the bouncers in Cork. But I agree, Kinsale is a great option.

Club seen isn't the best in Cork it,s more of a pub seen. Your best bet is to head towards Washington street or around the Cornmarket area. As said previous the bouncers in Cork are all on a power trip and only looking for a reason to use brut force

The Bodega should be fine too. Didn't they ban stag patries out in kinsale? In fairness, with that small group you should be fine most places.

I don't think the bouncers are on a power trip at all, maybe some kids that can't handle their drink may think so. (spoken by ex bouncer!!)

old oak is the one place our group in work have had bouncer issues

we're not rowdy or aggressive - we just stick together and each of the three times we went
we've either had bouncers escort us out or wouldn't let us back in when heading out for a smoke -
and they couldn't care less about jackets or the girls bags being left inside

very stuffy place too and almost a sport trying to get served at the main bar

We've been going to the franciscan well across from the mercy hospital for the last two years now - never any issues

huge choice of beers some of which are brewed in house

no loud music near the bar - easy to get served as you don't have people sitting at the bar

but the best bet is the huge beer garden - in the winter they have an open fire too - its the only pub I can think of that you can hear the people your talking to

only downside is the 5min walk for taxis and the crowd that hang around the african place further up the street - but unless your smoking they probably won't even look at you

ring ahead too - we always do - but a staff night out for us could have between 15-50 people

I'm 29 and going out in Cork since I was 18, have never had any real bother with bouncers anywhere in Cork City. Eight gents in their 30s shouldn't have bother anywhere in the city unless ye behave like a pack of c0cks, runners is a no no, which I think is common sense, you're not going to the gym. Dunno where the quick with their fists comes from either, most of the doormen in Cork couldn't drop a hard ****e and I reckon they are well aware of it too in fairness to them.

Reardens is anything but pretensious, I hate the place but pretensious it isn't. The Bodega, The Classic Bar and Crane Lane, now those spots are pretensious.

That's just it, the "artsy crowd" you speak of are about as artsy as my left ball, just because you wear a cardigan and a pair of specs doesn't make you artsy

if its on the long weekend you'll be hear to get your ears bashed by a load of gimps that dont have any gigs this week or next, but get roped in for the jazz weekend.......unless you go to some sweatfest where a free gig is flooded ....to be avoided like the swine flu(may be a good breeding ground actually)

If its the following week town will be a bit quiter after everyone shooting there bolt at jazz

If ye are going for a few quiet pints to get the ball rolloing and ye like the stout try dennehy's on coal quay...right old style small pub with creamy pints,5 mins walk from that maybe try the big super-pub across the road from it called bodega does food too so something there for all types
not a bad place for a few pints or to start off around the coal quay
4-5 different kind of pubs close to each other
all depends on age i suppose& what ye are looking for
