Having seen ad for Tv on the itv lately I think the makers of the ad must have been reading this thread. Nearly ever ad mentioned here is used in that one ad. It's the one where the guy is hypnotized.

I've also seen one from 1981 which uses this pronunciation.

I think Bord Gais bears were early '90s. At least, the offer was still going in '93/'94 because we moved house into our new house then and had gas installed. I was 7ish at the time and I was with my parents in speaking with the Bord Gais rep doing the job in BG office. Anyway, it was closing time and he was leaving us out but had to run back into his office for something...and came back out with a 50/50 cashback teddy bear for me!

I still have the bear; we called him Fifty; my mother used do voices for him (like in the ad - he was definitely the clumsy bearcub) and he was allowed get away with anything (e.g. breaking something while fighting with elder brother = "Fifty did it".) I haven't seen that ad in years! *sigh*
