Luas/bus crash on O'Connel Street !

Mate just rang me there saying a Luas just crashed into the side of a Dublin Bus on O'Connel street, front of the luas can't be seen it's that far in, section of it derailed too.

Anyone know anything else ?

Gratuitous union bashing. Standard advice in car accidents from insurance companies and legal eagles is not to make any immediate admission of liability.
Apart from the size of the vehicles involved this is a standard junction collision happening on one of the busiest streets in the country. Plenty of witnesses, cctv cameras etc. Should not be difficult to apportion blame.
From what I saw my guess would be that bus ran the red light.

Yes, it should be an open and shut case with some honest cooperation.
I just have a feeling that nobody will be held accountable here and that annoys me. Let's wait and see.

That case collapsed due to botched evidence provided by Volvo. That evidence would presumably either have cleared the engine or cleared the driver. Presumably Volvo would have had an interest in presenting evidence to the court that would show it had no liability in the case. They apologised for their mistake.

When I was in school We used to try to tip the dublin bus that took us out to the sports ground every week into the liffey. We'd basically all pile over to one side upstairs and then charge and slam ourselves into the other side as is took that really sharp corner onto the old bridge beside Heuston. That's correct, what a cock up. If I remember, the bus was passed fit only a couple of months prior to the accident. Perfect condition, but I guess, sometimes those buses just drive by themselves...:rolleyes:

LUAS and Bus still there at 830 tonight. They didnt look to be in too much of a hurry to move things yet. Hope everyone is OK and pulls through

Id say they already know who is at fault. Surely LUAS control at Red Cow know what signals were green for trams at any time (given its such a modern system). But, it will all go through the motions and the public will probably never know ....

My unnamed journalist friend who works for dublin bus has just confirmed the above. The crash we all saw was just a cover to disguise the real crash. Note anything about all the supermacs flags in all the "photographs" taken? THERE'S NO WIND ON O'CONNELL STREET!!11!

Was driving back over the north quays at about 22:30, looks like the Luas was still there. Couldn't make out the bus or alleged crane, since I was too busy keeping my eyes on the road in front to be gawping out the side window (being an excessively cautious learner driver). Told my ma to have a look and she says "what? what?" until we're past the junction anyway. Typical. We'd only been talking about the crash a few hours earlier...

What I did notice was not only a suspiciously large number of people milling about the streets (e.g. large enough to suggest that people have been coming into town with their mates just to view the crash scene), but also lots of people getting drunk around the quays and err, a junkie possibly stealing someone's bike and passing it over the wall to his can-holding wrecked girlfriend. Welcome to town.

so your car passes its nct today how do you know that its not going malfunction months later?. the same goes for planes trucks etc there machines they breakdown.

as for volvo it was a known fact of power surges in there buses the on board computers that are used for diagnoses can sometime show up no faults when there is

If that's true, than it doesn't bode well for the Gardai. I personally am sick to the teeth of Gardai cars speeding all over the city like we were in downtown New York or LA or somewhere.:( Must they speed all over the city blaring their sirens all the time?

This actually kinda sounds plausible. Well, at least the bit about the bus stopping and then the luas hitting it. From the pics it doesn't make sense as to why the bus would've broke the red light and then the luas move forward regardless of whether or not it had its signal to go.
