Wondering if anyone was thinking on doing that basic chemistry course from the monday 14th sep - till that friday.
Also to anyone that done it last year....Was it worth it?

Get the leaving cert book and spend the week reading that from cover to cover.

But what about those of us who are bored of summer and actually want to go to college already? I think the extra week would kill me right now.

But the thing is, they don't tell you anything about the course.

It mainly focusses on organic chemistry which is only a small part of 1e4.

I didnt bother doing it.. Didnt do chemistry for the leaving either.
Pay attention (kinda) in the lectures, go to some of the tutorials. Cram like a mad yoke before the exam, pass it and never look at chemistry again!!
Its not necessary at all... theyll never bring you up to lc level, or even near it, in a week of lectures..

I guess it is a bit like extended warranties for laptops and what not.

that chemistry week is soo utterly pointless. when you start chemistry lectures properly you will be so confused and lost anyway that the week you spent in lectures will have been for completely nothing.

Ive done physics and applied maths and tech drawing so that should save some time for a bit of extra work in chemistry, or thats the theory anyway

That should be you sorted for engineering drawing and mechanics anyway.

I did physics and applied maths, not tech graph though. oh well, im sure itll all work out. therell be people coming in here wihtout ahving done physics chem tech graph OR applied amths, so we wont be the worst off

I did the course after not doing Chem in the LC.
Truth be told, its pretty rubbish. The stuff you'll do in lectures will rarely be similar to it.
That said, its nice to go to it just to get a feel of the college and the campus and you'll meet some of the people who'll be in your course too.
I'd recommend it for these reasons alone, plus its nice to see the place before freshers week where you'll have all the societies hounding you which can make your first steps into the college a bit daunting!

I did it last year, it was a waste of time, made a couple of friends while there though and you learn where some of the lecture halls and stuff are:P really not worth it though

Oh, and btw, like someone else said-get through first year chemistry and be thankful you'll never see it again.
