Eircom To Block Users From Connecting To The Pirate Bay

The funny thing is, aren't The Pirate Bay introducing a registration fee of sometime soon in order to pay copyright owners - making downloading from the site legal?

Eircom to block internet access to Pirate Bay as other firms refuse

EIRCOM WILL block its internet customers accessing the Pirate Bay website from September 1st, but other internet service providers (ISPs) have refused a similar request from Irish record labels

Like most here.. I don't use TPB. But I'm not staying with Eircom..
They can feck off - bending over and blocking sites at the whim of 'music lawyers'. I pay them to access the entire internet.. not just
some of it.
What site will Sony/TW/etc take a disliking to next? a rival
record company? Sky news?.. Google?
It's an insane business move on their part... I'd write them a letter
or call and yell at them.. but the only thing they'll take a hint from
is a cancelled account and a fall in subscribers. May they crash and
burn like they fools they are.
I'ma try BT, or Vodaphone, or Smart, or some other ISP.
Eircom should rebrand and call themselves 'Duuuuuuh'

I tried downloading using transmission. At first it didn't work, there was a caution sign flashing, But after restarting the program it did work. The packets are flying now.

Well according to a couple of Isp`s I called today about changing one of them said

"They have no plans to block any websites in a manner to what other Isp`s have done from the 1st of September"

And the other one is getting someone to call me back.

It seems like Eircom are out on their own with this one and its going to come back and bite them in the arse.One company I called said they are inundated with Eircom customers wanting to change and I wasnt the only person to ask if they would cave in to pressure to block certain sites.

the pirate bay is changing ownership now and will be a legal sevices meaning eircom are preventing competition to those music companys

hope they both get sued and fined by the goverment for every moment they block the site after its changes buisness model.

Thankfully it's only Eircom that's affected. I'm on a re-seller, and all is fine here, as we all expected.

Trackers don't seems to be offline for me. I'm downloading torrents which i started downloading a few days ago just fine. Can't access the website without use of a proxy though. I am using Open DNS servers.

The best way to get around this is to dump eircon for another ISP. That's what I'm telling my friends to do anyway.

I have never before used bit torrent's, but just to make a point I have just
accessed TPB using http://anonymouse.org/anonwww.html downloaded the torrent file and am downloading a torrent for the first time.
So F***K You Eircom.:D

They might be doing something with the tracker, took vuze a while to find peers but eventually it sorted itself out and downloading at fast speeds now (Legal content of course).

Really pointless to block the site. Record companies should focus on new business models. Next they will try and block Google :rolleyes:

to everyone who said whats next google etc, thats a good point, i can't see them blocking much more though, i personally think its a step in the wrong direction for eircom, i like to keep my options open, i have used torrent sites in the past including the pirate bay, but i pay for internet access, not some internet access, even if its just a few sites. quite frustrating, and i shall be moving from eircom asap

The media's future targets will be the newsgroup providers, then other commercial providers will get in on the act in order to limit competitions, then people will get court orders to block certain blogs because they don't like what is being said, and the government will also get involved due to national security concerns, remember we had a state of emergency in this country for 30 years to counter the IRA, if that conflict was still active or started again then they would block sites favourable to the IRA.

Don't tolerate this now and stamp it out, because you won't get a choice in the future.

Well they will have a heads up that if they cave they will lose customers like eircom and definitely lose those that joined this september. It might give them support in their cause to fight IRMA and the likes.

I'm on Smart myself (hope they survive!) but wanted to check out the Eircom/PB situation so joined my neighbours network. They're using WEP but thanks to Eircom's laughable approach to security it was but a moments work to generate the correct key. I bet there's plenty more people out there that didn't bother to change their security settings.

Ironic that the only ISP willing to disconnect there cutomers for file sharing couldn't even ship properly secured modems!

By the way I've never used my neighbours connection for p2p stuff.

Trackers are connecting no problem my end.
I don't normally use the website itself but vtunnel rectifies this in the same way to blocked sites in work.

Once you connect to the swarm you don't actually need the tracker - you'll connect to other peers regardless. Only problem is that you may not be able to connect to remote peers which might slow it down a little but that's all. Pointless exercise by the studios and eircom.

It depends. If the torrent has no other tracker(s) and if there is no peer exchange allowed, then you won't be able to find anyone to connect to. A dead torrent is what will result.

Its not however changed ownership yet and come up with a legit business model, as such until this happens eircom are not preventing anything.

As such they cannot be sued by anyone,

Most of the TPB torrents, at least the newer ones, also contain a number of other trackers including openbittorrent.com which mostly appear to be still working.

Demonoid are having internal server problems at the moment which may affect their tracker....other than that the rest of the common trackers seem to be working as usual.
