Why do so many Irish High Profile Union leaders have beards

When we see a major Union spoksman in the media they normally have a beard or at least some fluff under the nose. Can anyone explain this

LOL. NOW we are getting to the really important stuff. Beards have important implications in social perceptions. Try here and here to see more on this.

In a nutshell, it's an easy way to make a man (or woman!) look older, more experienced, and wiser or more authoritative. Let's not forget conservative. For a union leader, a beard is a quick fix to portray the sort of image you want to get across.

The trade Unions need some shaking up!

Think about this, over a1000 loose their jobs in the air craft maintenence, where were the unions then?

And more other's in the public sector, do absolutely nothing, but hide behind paper, pretending to do work?

Perhaps it has escaped general notice, but ALL men - in Ireland and elsewhere - have beards.
It is entirely natural.
It is true of course, that they choose to cut them at varying distances from their skin, although it is difficult to see what could be read into this.
