    Are these people on the side of the road jews or ethnic russians ? It is hard to tell at this resolution - but that is an interesting picture.

    I would love to know where this town is ? I don't suppose there is any writing on the backs of these ?

    For a second there I thought this one was an ME 323 Gigant - but on looking more at it it seems to be a boat ? It is tricky to tell though at this resolution.

    Great pictures - thanks for posting those.

    Hi Morlar,there is writing on alot of them but only writing on one of the three you picked out,theres a name or a single word describing something,I'll get it scaned through later and post it up,someone might be able to translate it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 821 ✭✭✭FiSe

    It is a boat, you can see the life raft cranes on top right hand corner. Gigant would be hollow inside.
    I could be wrong, but those people on the side of the road, are they a gypsies? Judging be the tents and the temporary look of the settlement.
    The seaplane in the 1st batch of photos is Heinkel 59.

    Great selection there Mousey,some great shots.

    That monument in Narvik is interesting and it wouldn't be me without comment: the shot of firing 88 is taken in the night, so it's the flash which makes it look like a cave. And as well, I am not quite sure about the searchlight, it looks like a daylight shot.

    Interesting photographs

    Ah jeez, don't beat yourself up about it. That's the fun thing about old photos, trying to figure out what is going on that particular moment in time. ;)

    Nice destroyed Russian machinery, by the way.

    some nice photos there again Mousey-,I'm not sure and I might even be wrong but are those obsolete french tanks on the bridge,they look like stuff they had around WW1.

  • Registered Users Posts: 821 ✭✭✭FiSe

    Nice pictures, the StuG III in front of the 'Katyusha' would be my cup o'tea. Cool looking machines.
    I wonder are those Stalin organs fitted on GMC or other US truck?

    Fortification - it must be a part of the Maginot line, I'd say. And those funny looking tanks are Renaults FT-17.
    They were introduced during the WWI and produced in a large numbers in the following years. I think these were good light tanks for infantry suport, but obsolete in the 30's. A feast for the German guns...

    Don't know the type of the aircraft tha picture isn't big enough and there were many training bi-planes and they were all very similar. Could that be a Bucker-131 ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,273 ✭✭✭Morlar

    Yep they do look like Ft-17's as Fise mentioned. The 'fortifications' one looks interesting, it has obviously taken a lot of damage. The pictures I have of the maginot line show a different design than those but it's entirely possible they are from there too. Re the plane it is too hard to make out at that resolution though. Some nice pictures there.

    That is an excellent reference site, and a perfect match on mousey's one above. I have just been going through it trying to match it to some of mine now - cheers for the link.

    What a difference a higher res picture makes :)

    It's not possible to make out the insignia on the vehicle in the first pic (for me at least), but in the 2nd picture it looks like this is your plane :

    D-EFAY Bücker Bü131 A W.Nr.103 W.Nr.103 build in 1936/5 B0045 B0127

    Tail-reg site ;

    Plane wiki ;
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B%C3%BCcker_B%C3%BC_131

    'Bü 131A : Two-seat primary trainer biplane. Initial production version.'
