BluntGuy, let me provide commentary!

No 1 as you said, is the N24 approaching the city - the best view of the bridge I think.
No 2 is where the N9 coming out of the city will cross the old N9, just before the Grannagh interchange. If you're familiar with the area you'll know that the old N9 at that point is closed, so that they can build the bridges carrying the new N9 and the N25 (M25 if we're lucky) over the road.
No 3 is the new raised N9 section which runs more or less parallel to the existing one, between the Newrath roundabout and the Grannagh interchange.
No 4 as you said, is where the new N/M25 will cross the old N24. The N24 had to be lowered for this, which is why you go into a big dip at that point.

You can just visualise the Suir Bridge all lit up as you approach Waterford from the west. It will be stunning.

Incidentally, see where I took the third picture. I actually went up onto the site. I should've snapped it. I didn't go too far, because it was kinda dangerous, but I remember seeing a red-looking bridge of sorts - I think it was for a railway line. I'm not sure.

I know what you mean! I was thinking of heading to Waterford on Monday to have a gawk, but after all the photos and videos my curiosity is sated for now. When it opens I'll definitely head over that way though. Tis a pity it'll open as an N road.

I know what you mean, it's an awful waste of fantastic highway. I don't see how it's safe for pedestrians, cyclicts and such...

And there are two massive under-capacity roundabouts at Grannagh just waiting to be developed on.

I really hope this road isn't ruined by the local councillors. Maybe when and if the NRA takes responsibility for regional and local roads it'll get more say in what gets developed - but it won't affect this scheme anyway.

Great pics, but unfortunately it shows the stupidity of having the toll plaza just before the bridge, the Grannagh interchange (A roundabout junction) on the other side of the bridge and the disgrace that is the roundabout finishing off the M9. It could so easily have been done properly.

Just to give people a sense of how the N25 is at the other end, i.e. Cork, here is a video of some of the south ring and Jack Lynch Tunnel. Note the variable standard of the route (e.g hard shoulder). The Waterford Bypass will be of a far higher standard.

Great seeing a video of the Cork SRR & the Jack Lynch Tunnel - I haven't been to Cork in a long time (probably 12 years at least). I don't remember a lot of it and a lot of it has probably changed since I was there. I hope to head down to our 2nd city for a day or weekend at some point over the summer - the prospect actually has me more excited than if I were planning a trip abroad!

Yeah N18 and N20 I would say. The new Gort-Crusheen section will probably be open by the time I head down in a couple of months haha.

You won't be using the tunnel so. N20 would be quite a nice road if it was detrunked. Take care on it - some of the bends are deceptively tight!

RTÉ commission dull programmes about restaurant refurbishment; but when we build beautiful bridges and hundreds of kilometres of motorway that will revolutionise connectivity and transport across the island, it goes right over their heads.

The media needs a milestone to latch onto. Currently the M1 is the only complete motorway in Ireland. The M50 is still a building site and the rest of the roads have missing sections. The N25 Waterford BP is still under construction. It won't be until 2010 that the M6/7/8/9 are all completed within a few months of each other so I would imagine that to be a prudent time for some reportage and documentaries.

I thought it would be good to do a "Kings of Construction" type documentary following the crews on the various schemes, but this isn't being done. The result would be a couple of hour-long programmes that wouldn't break the bank.

True but as you note RTE just doesn't think about this sort of thing, now if the Motorways etc were works of literature they'd make a special presented by John Kelly!

Well they mightn't be works of literature, but some of them are works of art! (Suir and Boyne bridges, for starters).

Not to mention the economic/cultural/sociological effects that these constructions will have on people and how they work/play/socialise and make us realise that we live on a small island.

lining the road today between ballyrobin and mullinabro although this section has been all but been complete for 18 months or more. Only saw markings in white so no sight of yellow line broken or continuous.

Could somebody tell us what types of lines are being painted, and what colour signage is being put up.

I'd imagine even if green signage is erected, it'll still have the solid yellow lines.

N25 Waterford bypass was always intended to be an N road upgarde built to Motorway standard, it may well get a redesignation in the future to make rosslare to Cork motorway and be ireland's version of the M25
