House-mates from hell.

What have your experiences with housemates, dorm-mates etc been like?

I went to a boarding school, because of the mix of people I lived with, I'd consider myself to be a fairly open-minded person, and generally, I'm very laid back.

However, a guy I've been living with for the past few months has reeeeally pushed my limits;

- He changes the rent date every month, asking me for the rent on the day he needs it.

- He has wild, spur-of-the-moment parties, with all his stoner pals with loud loud music blaring until 8am or so - I had to deal with the guards at the last party.

- He steals my food / drink / cleaning stuff and even has the cheek to use them in front of me.

- As our lease is up soon, he invited people to view the house - I found this out when a man came into my room, while I was getting dressed.

... He's done countless other things, but the man's basically a nightmare!

Just looking for any of your stories about people you've lived with

From the above your housemate seems like an inconsiderate so and so.... I suggest to play your music rather loud early in the morning whilst he is stoned and start to eat his food and use his cleaning equipment and tell him that you dont have the rent the next time he asks and only pay when its due. I am quite sure he will then start to realise he cant keep doing what it is he is doing without consequences.

Live with some seroiusly messy girls at college.
Will probably not get deposit back due to their partying...

Cannot stand that they leave fag butts/ ash in every f**kin clean glass in the house..

None of them take the bin out...

But on the bright side i am moving out in 2 weeks!

Worst thing my housemates did was put that bastardized version of 'hallelujah' by alexandra burke on repeat one saturday morning. Over and over.

A girl i was working with stayed in a student house in collins ave with two other girls. She said they were manky. One day the landlord made an inspection and was asking her what was going on. She explained that the other two were manky and didn't give a fcuk. The landlord went upstairs and one of the girls had left her door open. On the bed was a used sanitary towel.

Does this guy own the house? From what you say there, it sounds like he does.

I hope he does, otherwise you could be liable for the couch he has "done away with"!

lived with a few weirdos over my 4 years of college!!

weirdo who used to get up at like 6 in the morning and have a shower and then turn off the imertion, which was on a timer, so there'd be no hot water for like 2 hours after someone went to have a shower, realised there was no hot water and went to investigate and turned it back on!! came to physical assault after my 5th cold shower in a row, during exam week!! i dug the head off him for being such a weirdo....stress got to me!!

the same guy also used plug out our fridge/freezer or tamper with the temperature....things used go off days before the best by date n we didnt realise for ages why....he kept turning the temp down ond fridge! WEIRDO!! this was in a student accom. village so we had him removed after 4 months!! crikey!

also shared with a french girl who played the harp!! at odd times, at like 7 in the mornin.....and her room was underneath mine!!! grrrrrrrr!!!!

It's great that you're moving out.

Funnily enough, he doesn't own the house at all!

He got a one-year lease on it, rents it from an agency. Although, I have no idea about this agency at all!
No idea how much the entire monthly rent is for the house either, so he could be completely ripping us off! He gets a bit weird when you ask questions ... I tend to avoid him, considering his odd antics.

His house party the other night was insane - Woke up yesterday, went to the bathroom to find the lock broken, the floor black and sticky, the shower rail pulled off the wall and hash remnants in the bath, toilet and sink

A friend of mine living in the house said that yesterday evening, when I was packing to move, a man came to the door and there was suspicious conversation and exchanging of money ... so seems like he's also dealing in the house!

Cannot wait to be shot of him!

I shared a flat with a guy from Bangor. He poured bleach in my fish tank, hung an enormous Ulster flag out of bedroom window and left it there for days (had so many complaints), as he'd gone away and just left it hanging there. Over the 12th july, he smashed the flat up (i'd gone home to visit the family in Liverpool, so got a nice surprise on my return). He got his four weeks notice to quit the property after that. The funny thing was, he was sound on the whole. It's just, when had so much as a sniff of booze, he turned into a monster.

Worst i have lived with was a guy from Louth

First night in the house should have been the warning sign. Arrived with 8tins and proceeded to get slaughtered on his own. That was a regular occurrence. Also we had a lot of spirits donated to us for christmas by the landlord, prob 10 bottles of whiskey, vodka etc. We said to work away. Good lord he did! All gone in 3 weeks

He also robbed everyone's food. sometimes he'd only half eat what he had robbed and leave it out on the table for all to see. Once half a roast of my flatmates was half eaten and a "sorry I'll replace it£ note attached, of course it never was

He once had a few to many and donated the proceeds to the floor beside the kitchen table and gone to bed. Next day he got up and had breakfast in the kitchen and headed off leaving the pool of puke. I refused to go near it. He arrived back later that evening and cleaned it up. ie gave it a quick wipe

Another time he missed the toilet while having a dump leaving the turd on the toiled seat.

Final straw was when he disappeared for two weeks, not a word from him! He arrived back and said he'd been in the "big house" for 2 weeks. 1 month later we all moved to another house.

Sounds so unbelievable to me while I'm typing it, unreal behavior for a guy in his 30s

Take some time out and relax. The thing is that the majority of murders are carried out by people who are acting in the heat of the moment or who haven't thought things through. These stories are scaring me now, I'm moving into a different house share in 2 weeks. Been fairly lucky with housemates so far apart from a smoker. Note to self: don't move in with smokers.
