Maplins have a few good ones at decent prices. dex picked up a soldering station type one for me in there a few months ago and it brilliant. heats up very quick and is temperature controlled.

Aye, I got two for myself. They were 75 bucks reduced to 15 for a sale. If you're on a budget and you're not in a hurry, have a look in Maplin for irons that are on sale. They're not always on but the sale items change every month so if you're willing to wait a few weeks you can sometimes get a deal on a temperature controllable one (which would always be the best option).

What is it you're soldering? Sometimes certain applications can only be done with a more or less powerful iron (hence temp controllable being best).

Its just going to be used mainly on aegs, ive no real other need and anything else that comes up.
i'd rather jsut get a decent one and have it for a long time than a cheapo one that ill get a little bit of use out of.

as for the on in lidl, mine just failed, the heating element or something along that lines, just died.

the other thing is solder,
is there any one solder that will do or do i need the flux core solder, etc etc.

It's light enough work so, which leaves you a fairly open choice on the type you want. I would suggest getting a proper controllable one, it'll let you do PCB's without burning the board with low temp and still have the capacity to ramp up for doing heavier work like larger gauge wire.
Maplin, RS in Crumlin or Farnell out in Santry all have decent ranges. Maplin have good deals on controllable ones now and then. RS and Farnell don't really do offers but they have a better range and a heck of a lot more accessories like fine point and chisel tips.

Solder wise, flux is good to have. Personally I use 1mm Multicore 60/40 solder. I find it a great general purpose solder for electronics and even fine PCB work.

Odds-on they're not titanium, but titanium plated. They'll wear well at contact points but that won't prevent stress fractures propagating into severe cracks in a very short space of time. Also, the most worrying weak point on a set up like that would be the case itself. I've seen medium rof set-ups (20-25rps) crack and beat out the entire front end of the case around the air seal from sheer repeated impact. In a box like that one I'd expect structural reinforcement to be there too.

The voltages they show it being tested at are just to show off though. Noone's ever going to run it at 15.8v. I doubt anyone would even run it above 11.1v, and that's only because lipos are becoming common and easier to use.
