Seems alot of this starting up again, got stung with one tonight and handed it back to your man, same happend again about 2 weeks ago same deal i handed it back, the guy seemed shocked.

I was in a newsagent not so long ago, and was getting cashback after paying with my laser. The cashier took a fifty out of the till and gave it to me, and it was fake. Luckily enough I copped on straight away (my time served as a bank cashier served me well in this instance) and asked her to give me two €20s and a €10 instead.

She started trying to tell me that she couldn't open the till again unless she had a sale, so I picked up a pack of chewing gum and gave her a coin for it, once she opened the till, I asked her again to break the note, so she didn't really have a choice that time. TBH, I think she totally knew it was fake and was trying to get rid of it, but I didn't want to start questioning the note's authenticity with her because there were other people in the shop and I didn't want to cause a scene. Personally I'd never knowingly pass on a fake note. It's a pretty sh!tty thing to do IMO.

Think this was done only a few days ago. If I got stung, would definately try to pass it on, if I found that it was from a shop I would hand it back, I wouldn't take no for an answer either. Morally wrong I know, but I won't be out of pocket because some scum bag wants to make a few quid.

Watch the 50 notes folks, loads of them going around, seen em first hand and there are more people than you wouold imagine who go out purposely just to sting you with them,

Look at it this way - If someone on a till in a shop gets stung with a dud, then cops onto it but it's too late, they aint gonna go and confess to their boss, they are gonna sting the next person they serve,

But i have personally seen hundreds of these 50s and they are almost identical so just be on your guard...

well the only reason I'll be getting a fifty back in change is if I pay for something with a €100 note... and TBH I've never seen one, and probably never will.

If a shop gives you a dud 50, and you say its fake and then they wont give you a real 50....what do you do?

Can you call the Gardai? Because basically they just robbed you!

Best thing in my experience is to ask them for lower value notes eg. two twenties and a tenner or five tenners.

yes you can call the gardai, it is a criminal matter. if the store has a note check facility, as far as im aware they are obliged to let you check your change if you request it. this is what i was told working in a pub years ago.
