I bought this TV 2 weeks ago for my old man. Very happy so far (considering it retails here for 799). The pixmania version is a french model and comes with every instruction book except english, but this is readily available online from Sony. It is compatible with Irish DTT i.e mpeg4. However I have been unable to test the enchanced text yet and I believe that you need a mheg5 decoder and am unable to confirm if this is standard in the sony.

always give places like samsyerman or richersounds a bell too as they will price match and much better than dealing with pixmania who have an awful reputation for dealing with aftersales

just search boards and you will find enough complaints. If something goes wrong,m you have to pay carriage to france generally so imagine your tv!
Richersounds are generally very good on price for all host of tvs so maybe they had something equivalent in sony line? Sams yer man are good too, everyone sings their praises along with richersounds

does anybody own a samsung le37a676 in the uk. I've just bought one and cant seem to get the freeview to work properly. None of the channels are in order and the numbers dont correspond. For example bbc1 is channel 8 hundred and something. Anybody had the same problem? Thanks.

Saw the 37" Panasonic freesat tv in Selfridges, Trafford Centre, Manchester for 765 pounds, yesterday.
This one receives Irish DTT as well. price seems very good.

Change the Country in regional settings normally sorts out this sort of issue.

Yes it will do DTT. It has 2 tuners and MHEG5 for interactive red button/epg/freesat menu. The HD processor does the Mpeg4 decoding not the tuner. Make sure the model has a B at the end or NO other letter at all (they change the spec per country as they will use F for France - no freesat tuner)

Its the 2009 version of the 2008 Freesat HD range ie the TH-46PZ81B

As I understand it, All Panasonic with 81 in the model number has the mpeg4 dtt tuner.
The rest do not.

As I understand it, all Panasonic with 81 in the model number do have the mpeg4 dtt tuner.

The rest do not.

my z81 is not doing epg at moment though as same with others with 81, dtt showing up fine though

Not true anymore. With reference to last years models, that is correct but not with the new models. The G10 definitely has a freesat HD tuner. looks a very nice set too, i have to say.

He says the Tv with the b at the end will do the same with the one with the L at the end.

The KDL32V4000 does NOT have an MPEG4 tuner. The KDL32V4500 does as does this new KDL32V5500

I know that but is it worth paying over €200 for the MPEG4 model the KDL32V4500 Would it not be as good to buy the set top Box later for about €80 when it comes in . Are there anyother disadvantages

Is it known definitively, whether or not the Pioneer PDPLX5090 is Irish DTT Ready it is included on "STB's" list (in red, any signifcance)? However Richersounds say it won't decode mpeg4 transmissions.

Any help appreciated.

peneau the versions I posted in that list are PDP-LX5090H, PDP-LX6090H . Quite ironic that I posted that for the MD of Richer Sounds in the first instance! But they mainly stock products for the UK market. Did you ask for the versions with the H ?

The H version allows for HD Satelitte & terrestrial MPEG4 AVC.

The version without and D version are SD terrestrial only, so make sure you have the complete model when searching/buying.

set they stock (currently out of stock) they are expecting new stock in the next few weeks, I'd love to go for the KRP-500a but it's about €700 more expensive, anyway I digress, thanks again for that, it's a great help.

Just Came across one of these cams(CONAX MPEG2 AND MPEG4 CAM) .. I have a samsung le40m86bd lcd and can get all sound and no picture.. If i pop one of these into My cam slot in the tv its supposed do decode mpeg-4 DTT signal..
Anyone come across these?
I've ordered on anyway as they're not too expensive.. €55 on ebay..
I'll let you know how i get on.. Maybe i dont have to throw away my year and a half old lcd yet..

We do know which models support MPEG4!! and as you know from our earlier correspondence we NEVER try to pull the wool over Customers eyes!
We have received a number of queries from Boardies who have asked us if we stock 5090H / 6090H models - we don't.

I appreciate that you are extremely knowledgable about MPEG4 - however we do know our onions too! It's a pity that all our competitors both North and South are not so forthcoming and it's a pity that this forum is not perscribed reading for them!

John I could send you a pm, but I am not in the business myself of selling TVs so anything I say here is not as a competitor. I'm taking the consumer view. I don’t have a problem with any one single retailer. I would find it difficult to single out one; most don’t want to be inconvenienced by stocking basics such as the right integrated tuners.

The point I was making to the original poster was that the list of TVs that I listed back in January was for your benefit as you previously commented that‎ "the situation is that we honestly do not have H/MPEG4 product to sell - this is because the vast majority of product imported into the country at the moment is not fitted with MPEG4" That prompted me to list 7 different manufacturer's MPEG4 products (including Phillips products, on whose behalf you were also responding in page 7 of this thread). All of these products are freely available to source in the UK and EU in most cases at competitive prices!

A member of the board here contacted Richer Sounds and was told the model didn’t support MPEG4. Perhaps the poster did not give the full model with the H when inquiring. Only that poster will know. The model with the H does as was posted earlier in this thread. As you say you know your onions when it comes to MPEG4 which is a good thing as it is your business. Most retail TV shop staff don’t understand the basics of Irish DTT technology. Without even googling (but I did anyway) I know I could have one of those delivered to my home within the next week from the UK. I have had to do so for family and friends who couldn’t get any future proof LCD here in Dublin. peneua: stoneaudio.co.uk in milton keynes - STG £1995. You will have to check out delivery costs, they deliver within EU, according to their website.

And indeed it is a pity that most retailers can’t follow your line and be proactive within the boards community and more importantly with the Irish consumer in general. I am not here to single you out as a representative of the industry because you are the only one to have the courage to come on here. And in your own words 'retailers are aware that they can sell old tat to Customers'.

So here is a perfect opportunity to get a plug in. Do you have any MPEG4 TVs in stock in the Phillips Shop at the end of Georges Street or indeed Richer Sounds in Belfast at the moment? I know you have a reputation for being helpful and given that there is a serious lack of commitment from most retailers, good opportunity to offer an alternative given the constant questions from boards members of where to go and general availability.

Now back to my rant about why it seems impossible to buy a moderate to good spec TV in Ireland ?

Most off the street punters dont know what MPEG4 is and dont really care. They rely on the advice of the retailer. Big mistake. The stark reality of it is that most retailers are not even stocking platform neutral products. Most will only work by connecting an NTL/SKY box. Conspiracy theorists could have a field day here. I prefer to think it’s just a case of get the cheap stock from the various warehouses scattered around the UK. Sure Ireland is only an overflow market.

What is very annoying is seeing "Freeview" products stocked here. Not alone will they not support DTT, most do not even have an analogue tuner and even if they did it would only work in areas broadcasting analogue on UHF (which is not the case for all Ireland). Likewise NTL still broadcast their analogue cable service on VHF. Most UK Digital TV products do not feature VHF tuners. So whats the justification ?

Retailers including CEDA members are expected to stock some suitable products FTA digital TV in Ireland arent they ?

In these days of recession ,with the availability of Combo TV products offering the consumer FTA sat and terrestrial TV in high quality for nominal set up costs and with more people looking for these options (including every second person who seems to have had a now redundant “free” cable box) you would think it would be in the interest of those selling TVs to use this as a selling point to make money. Wouldn’t ya ?

I'm the O.P. Just to clarify, my query to Richersounds was via e-mail and I enquired about the Pioneer PDP-LX5090 on sale on the Richersounds website this model does not have a H at the end of the model no., I was unaware of a H model variant, so my query was purely abouth the Richersounds PDP-LX5090 model and the reply was that it doesn't decode mpeg 4 broadcast tranmissions, which I understand to be correct.

As an aside STB do you know if the H model is available anywhere on this Island?

I honestly wouldnt know where to point you in Ireland for that model as we are dependant on the retailers stocking it.

That price did seem quite competitive - up to £400 cheaper that other web prices in UK. Shipping from Milton Keynes could be anything up to £200 given the size of that model.

You should check out the Panasonic Viera TH-46PZ81B - have a freesat HD tuner and a Dvb-t tuner - and it will pick up the Mpeg4 Irish DTT.
