Why are Gerry Ryan, Tubbers and Pat the Plank paid so much?

Vincient Brown made the interesting remarks a few nights back asking WHY are these "stars" paid so much? He asked - is the bbc going to snatch them!? The answer is no. So WHY are these people paid so much!? It is not only them - look at Joe Duffy and some of the other presenters like Dobbo and "Miriam"(the one with 14 kids or whatever and presents Slimetime). Pat Kenny comes across as a talentless android on the Late Late. He reminds me of that guy from that film "the field" (just like the travellers in the caravans out in Finglas). Joe Duffy does 2 hours of "yeah", "yeah", "yeah" a day. He comes from Ballyfermot - he should have stayed there. The most talentless waste of space in RTE. And what about Gerry "im too good for a paycut" Ryan!? The cheek of him pontificating about "hard times" every morning on 2fm - He gets 600k a year or something of that order and comes across as just generally selfish, unpleasant and just a bit too far up his own arse.

IMO these talentless bunch should be put on the minimum wage. Of all of them only Brian Dobson seems to have any credibility.

I just cannot understand how it has got to a situation where these people are paid so much. It makes no sense.

They are paid very little compared to stars from other countries in similar lines of work. Terry Wogan for instance is on £800,000 a year, Jonathan Ross is on a £6million a year contract.

Our policticians on the other hand are paid way too much in comparison to any other non corrupt country in the world today.

If he is so proud of it why does he not still live amongst the good people of Ballyfermot? I mean if it is such a nice place and all as he likes to portray it in his younger days every now and again. Im sure their are plenty of people in Ballyfermot that would do a better job for far less money then him. He is far from the only pretentious one in RTE.

From a much bigger country with genuine competition for presenters. That is the difference. This country is tiny.

Thing is, their base audience is the UK and so comprises millions more people than here. Add to that global use through BBC worldwide, available all over Europe and popular in the States, and you have even more viewers. The money those guys earn is much more thinly spread than here.

I'm sure RTE have sat down and worked out how much each of these four generate for the the channel purely by who they are and then pay them accordingly. Despite the popular trend I don't really have anything particular againt Duffy, Kenny and Tubridy. Ryan on the other hand is a different kettle of fish. I sometimes like to give him the benefit of the doubt that he is just acting the role akin to an 'American 'shock jock' with the way he goes on and that he's really and alright bloke, but the majority of the time I prefer to believe that he is just an abnoxious flabby bourgeois cúnt who has his head so far up Fianna Fails arse that he could tell you right now how many fillings Brian Cowen has in his disgusting fat gob. When the revolution comes Ryan will be the first up against the wall and I'll be auctioning off a gun and bullet to all comers, I plan to retire that day a very rich individual.

I just want to say that the OP is a Capitalist - I believe in low tax, no health service to pay for (everyone should be private) and ruthless drive for profit and big business and how the wealth can trickle down. Don't have any truck with Socialism.

When it comes to RTE however that's a different story....I just get mad:eek:

It does but his wages are tiny in the overall scheme of things. Those who work and succeed should be rewarded (except for those in RTE) - those that don't should have no safety net at all - no dole - nothing. If you fail, you fail. If I had my way all the unemployed out there would be homeless - no social housing or any welfare of any kind after a 6 month period of living off the state. Like they do in the US. All public sector assets would be privatised for competition purposes. The health service scrapped. Everyone to go private. 18 billion saved in one go. Strikes would be outlawed during this national emergency and half the civil service sacked. The rest, the politicians and all public representatives would have their wages cut by between 50 and 75%. Taxes would be cut - full fees for education brought back - and every sector of commercial life would have competition to keep wages low and workers productive. Trade Unions would no longer have a right to represent any sector (as in the US multinationals where wages are good and workers happy) etc etc. Then we are on the road to recovery.

You get paid in the commercial world by what the opposition in the market you operate in is prepared to pay.You get paid what the going rate for the gig is.

Now call me Mr Wycliffe O'Cynical, but I can't see anyone anywhere matching even half those wages for that lot.

I would imagine that ad spaces on the Late Late would cost at least a few thousand euro considering that the show regularly draws the largest TV audiences in Ireland. Therefore I think that, as previously posted, their wages are considered in proportion to their revenue. I'm not saying I agree with it but that's the way it works.

RTE make more from Pat than Pat makes from RTE...and that's depressing!
