Getting asked for I.D. in your twenties

I was in a newsagents earlier and got asked for I.D...... I'm 24!!.... I was buying a feckin scratchcard!! I had no I.D so I said to her 'I'M 24!' but she goes "I have to ask ya love'. I told her to leave it and slunk out of the shop feelin about 12.

I felt a bit better in tescos later, when there was a woman in the queue in front of me buying drink. The cashier asked her for I.D. and the woman said shamefacedly that she was 27. The cashier then goes "JAYSUS i didnt think ya were tha OLD!!!" The woman legged it redfaced out of the shop with the cashier shouting after her "AT LEAST YE LOOK GOOD FER YOUR AGE!!!!

This ever happened to you?

I got carded a year or two ago when collecting scratch-card winnings from a shop, didn't have ID on me so she wouldn't give me my €4. Thing is that she had sold it to me about an hour beforehand. :mad:

About a week later she turned up in the pub where I worked with a group of friends so I refused to serve her, this woman was easily 30. Petty I know but god it felt good.

Ha I'm sure some people here can identify with this.... when I was 14/15 I always used to have to show ID to prove I was young enough for a child's fare on public transport and then when I was 18/19 I always used to have to show ID to prove that I was old enough to buy drink! :rolleyes:

I wish I could be asked for ID now though at nearly 23. I'd see it as a compliment.

What was he doing licenses or just the student card things? Cant seem to get the colour right if i do a license and the student cards aren't worth a ****e for clubs ! Best job to do is get someones license who's over 18 take the laminate off and take the pic out, then take the pic from your own license(because it has green lines on it) and stick it in and cover over the license again with laminate(stuff that you use for school books works the best) and your sorted know way of telling its fake.

I work in Tescos and the story is if anyone looks under 21,even though theage limit is 18.Its really to cover their back and also people forget how some people look different when dressed up.Thousands of people go through the doors and im sorry if i dont remember everyone.I card people and if im not sure i dont serve them as i dont want to lose my job.Its just really as simple as that.And Tesco take passport and garda id and thats it.

Biggest problem I have in Tesos is finding a till that is staffed by someone over 18 that can sell me the beer.

The only place that I'd usually get asked for ID would be Tescos, and they are the biggest bunch of pricks ever.

A goverment issued passport/drivers licence and they won't take it.

How about trying to buy Liquor choclates in Thorntons in the UK! We had to wait ages for another MOS to come and log onto the till so we could buy a box of bloody sweets! The poor girl was really embarrassed! :eek:

On the occasions I do get asked for identification, I smile and ask them to repeat the question and then produce my ID, thank them and say I am delighted they thought I was underage! Although I know technically they have to ask to see if you are carrying ID and not purely to prove your age. Get over it, take your ID in future.

I was in a shop on Grafton Street once, myself and a friend buying beer. My friend went up, asked for ID, gave his passport, guy at the counter said "sorry, I need to see a Garda ID". My friend said he didn't have one, and if he didn't he wouldn't carry around a passport, the guy sold him the beer. Then I went up, got asked for ID, and gave my Garda ID. Guy asked if I had a passport.
That makes no sense to me.

Worse was here in Sweden. To buy beer in the (government run) off licenses, you have to be 20, but you can buy 3.5% beer in shops at 18. I was buying a sixpack of 3.5% beer and got ID'd. That was demeaning.

But they should have to accept a drivers license TBH.

It is acceptable to go to the UK but not to buy alcohol in Tesco.

They take it too seriously TBH. It annoys me because I don't want to bring my passport to the super market. It is a personal, valuable document and I don't want to get it stolen on me.

I just refuse to do it. If they won't serve me, I'll go to the off license down the road where they won't ask me for any id.

I'm 17 and haven't gotten asked for ID in my local off licence for about two years now (don't really look that old for my age or anything) despite the big sign on the door saying 'ID required at all times up to 25 years of age'. That sign used to scare the sh*t outta me.

My fake driver's licence (scan/print/laminate job) works in most clubs, pubs and off licences though thankfully

I also got served with it in Tesco not so long ago.

Will be 18 in 3 weeks though so I can forget about all this fake ID nonsense

Loads of people do, give them a 10er and then they just get another one simple as, its not like your going to be giving the license to the gards or anything lol

A funny one actually, In a Super Valu supermarket I went to buy 6 cans of Fosters, on the till a nice girl scanned the items and asked for payment, payment made and immediately a security guard (obviously power mad :pac:) comes over to the till, gives out to the girl that she didn't ID me, shouts at me for ID which I politely present my passport (Was 20 btw), starts giving out to the girl on the till that she should ID all customers, now fair enough maybe, but I've always wondered was what he did legal? Wasn't the transaction between the girl at the till and me? Anyways felt really bad for the poor girl as this really stressed her out, I also don't know how "legal" it was for the security guard to attempt to interfere with the transaction

Bouncers do that as an excuse to engage in interaction with you to see if you are already too drunk for admission. Doesn't matter if you are 18 or 38.
