Human traffic style clubs.

Another boards member recently posted in another thread that his idea of clubbing was going to a big club with your mates, getting wrecked on drugs and listening to dance music only (none of this rap and r n b crap).

I agree totally. I hate going out, getting drunk and putting up with rubbish tunes played by a dj with no mixing skills. I want to go out to get wrecked and lost in the music.

My question is this, are there any clubs in Ireland where its possible to do this? Like the club in Human traffic, or Eden or Amnesia in Ibiza. Were there ever clubs like this in Ireland? Or do they exist/still exist in England?

I know you can go to one off dance gigs, but they are in temporary venues, and I doubt the atmosphere is the same. I want to go to a proper big club, with resident djs just once to see if it is everything I think it would be.

Seems like we live in one of the worst countries in the world for clubbing, with early closing times and hefty drink prices. Not that I drink too much, getting drunk is crap for me, but thats a thread for another day!

i know wat u man mate i know that there where clubs like that back in the day such as sides, the asylum, the olympic etc but now and days your not going to get a regular spot like that the last place i went to that was on regularly that was like that was the belvedere bar in town and it was the smelliest lil place ever wasnt evena club ws a function room but my god the atmosphere in their at times was unreal the music was great and everyone was der for the saem reasons to dance there hearts out to gr8 music and get out of their lil minds....i have fond memories of that place lol:D

It might not be that mainstream, but I find there's quite a good dance scene in Dublin. Personally, I'm mainly into Psytrance and Electro-House, and find there're quite a few good frequent events organised by promoters in places like Tripod, Radio City, The Button Factory etc. . McGruders usually has good, multi-room dance nights with a variety of different (generally more underground) styles. And we do have Life Festival in Galway also, which is about as good as a dance festival gets.

not to state the obvious but isnt there alot of dedicated dance clubs in dublin that dont play r&b or rap.

Actually yes there are quite a few psy-trance nights in Dublin on every now and then. Psy-trance attracts a great crowd (a little hippyish maybe;)) but the music itself isn't really up to much.

When I properly think about it there are a few nights on around the place. The electro night in Andrew's Lane theatre springs to mind. Pity I'm not a huge electro fan either:)
I'm more into my Gatecrasher style classic trance. Yes I know its cheesy but **** off I love it:)

What I'm really yearning for is a club with resident djs who play mainly classic trance (none of this recent crap). I think I was born ten years too late:mad:

Jonny Human traffic was the best example I could think of!

why not find some modern music you like and go to events where they play that.failing that try oldschool nights or get a time machine,same thing really:D

I've been getting more and more into techno, drum n bass and breakbeat, so there is hope for me yet.
McGruders are supposed to be good for that kind of thing, or so I've heard. I've yet to convince the lads to come to it though.

I was planning on going to Transahara in Morocco, but the temporary job I had lined up didn't come through.

Life festival, supposedly brilliant alright but heavily policed. Im not one to enjoy myself when your under constant surveillance to be honest!

I passed by the Morgan Hotel last night on my way to another club, surprisingly the music seemed very good, I was on for going in, but the crew were headin elsewhere.

Anyone know anything about this place or certain nights in it?

I haven't been but I can't imagine it to be heavily policed. Its not a festival on the same scale as ****** or EP. I'm planning on going this year so I hope its not anyway

Used to be a bouncer there bout 4 years ago, great little spot, very trendy bar. But not sure if its a place to get off your mallet..
Last time i was there they were playing funky house it was quiet early to, I'm sure he probably had it banging out by the end of the night..

Heavily policed? ROFL.

There were security all right, many of whom were assholes, but they were mainly just keeping fence hoppers out. There was supposedly a small drugs squad presence too, but let's just say they weren't in any way effective

It was one of the freest, chilled out atmospheres I've ever experienced.

I was told by a lad I know that on the first night a few of his mates were chillin in the campsite and them along with their entire tents got searched top to bottom, every bit of weed or whatever they had on them gone. And this wasnt long after they were in the door.

Perhaps they were just unlucky, but when another person said 'thats supposedly crawling with cops' I tend to ponder whether it was as laid back as it is hailed.

Hmmm.. that could be possibly to do with the fact that they'd just arrived, and perhaps the DS were trying to make a few examples of people early...

I mean, put it this way, it was extremely difficult to escape the smell of weed in any populated part of the festival, and drug use was extremely open. I knew of one person who got weed confiscated, but he was rolling right next to a DS member.

On the Life forum people seemed to have mixed opinions on how strong a DS presence there was. I don't think anyone would have agreed that the place felt heavily policed or that their presence was detrimental to the festival in any way.

McGruders - Thomas Street. It is the last place in Dublin that not only houses but promotes insanity. Gabba to make your ears bleed and Dubstep to stir your bowels. Seriously. Get there before they close the place down. It is not on the level of Human Traffic. It is small and more like an old converted gaff but the atmosphere is chaotic. UV Nurses with giant syringes, painted dolls heads, a woman in a bed on the wall....all surreal and worth a look...

Get there on the 3rd Jan....MAYHEM!!

+1 for McGruder's, good crowd and good craic, especially when they get the numbers in. The multi-room nights are the best IMO.

What about the Nighflight nights in The Button Factory (Every Friday) or Twisted Pepper on Abbey Street (used to be Traffic now owned and run by Bodytonic). NightFlight bring over really top quality Dj's like Francois K, Claude Von Stroke, Marc Houle etc playing accross House, Minimal, Techno, Tech House. Twisted Pepper has a really broad mix of stuff depending on the night everything from Dubstep, Breaks, House, Techno, Electro the list goes on.

McGruders can be good the vibe is really down and dirty. Its not really a purpose built club but for some reason it works really well.

I couldnt tell you a good trance night as its not my bag but im sure there is plenty on here that can.

Just wanna say thanks to everyone who supported the venue through the years. Those there from the beginning to those who have put on some great gigs over the last year. The place was only hindered by noise pollution and not other more salacious factors as some are trying to put forward. It was a true ****hole, but it was usually the crowd that made it and for that we also say cheers. It was really coming on with some very interesting guys putting on some very interesting nights but until and if it gets sorted, we're gonna call it day after a good journey.

special thanks to the junction lads, weird scientist, breakdown, deadbeat, giles and conky, teknowarfare, humanmusic (bo, richie and jeff), jamie clarke, barry o'neill, worries outernational, plarform eire, tetric, mark hugh, united drumz, mantua, acii disco and anyone else we may have forgotten.

we may be back, but i think the last few gigs are some of the best we've had and it seems like a nice time to bow out and move on to other things.
