Engineering course.

Hi all, I was at the DCU open day today and took an interest in their mechanical engineering course. The only problem is that I do not do honours maths just ordinary level and I need honours to apply. Does anyone know anyway around this or can I just simply not go to this college? Thanks for any help, Ian

No you are not eligible to apply for this course. If you want to do Mechnical Engineering you should be able for Higher Level maths. Maybe there was a restriction in your school. You may look at diplomas or ordinary degrees in ME in DIT they may not have the same restrictins.

i ain't fully sure what level of maths is involved in the present 1st year engineering course for geting in but i do know there are programmes called fe & fee where people got in without having a certain level of maths. don't know whether that was honours level or a certain mark in honours level.

cactus jack is right, there's 'open opportunities' which basically means getting in with a lower maths mark, including some pass marks. A friend of mine got in on it and he's in second year Mechatronic Engineering now, so it is definitely possible to not do honours maths and be able for engineering.

You need to get e-mailing people for information on open opportunities now, really it would've been ideal to ask at the open day but anyway... Send a few e-mails to people in the faculty and get the info you need.

However, are you sure you want to do engineering and why? You've probably heard this before but it really is a maths intensive course meant for people who like maths. It is possible you'd do fine and like it, but it is also possible you'd have to work loads and hate it.

PS: though open opportunities is listed as a separate course, it basically means entry to the common first year and assuming you do ok at that then you can choose to enter any engineering course you like in second year.

Thanks for the help guys, il look into it some more. Cocoa,thanks for that il start emailing a few people and see what I get back. Im not 100% certain that I wanna do engineering but im thinking of putting as an option. Thanks again for the help
