colonoscopy!take it like a man or not??

well the time has come and tomorrow is the day when i will experience my first ever colonoscopy:o and i thought i would ask the well informed lads and lasses from boards.ie for your opinions !
shall i just go in lie down and take it up the chocolate chute like a man with no sedative, or go in like a mouse and ask for some sedative to make me sleep all the way through it?

From experience its bad both ways(excuse the pun even though it was intended).

You take the sedative and you are like a drunk/druggie afterwards babbling nonsensical crap.

You dont take it and you feel every bit of it.

Its the Colyte that will get you in the end(damn I actually on got this on the proof read). Its a drink to flush you out and my god does it. Its for loosing the stool. You will be making frequent trips to the bathroom and it will be like a gushing spring out your rear.

Its not a nice experience on the hole(see I did it again) but its important to get it done for a number of medical reasons which Im sure is the reason you are doing it.

I have had a few done for medical reasons I wont go into and my poor GF has one every month.

MY GF and her sister also have Chrons. Diagnosed in their early 20's. :mad:

When her sister was in hospital and I was on builders holidays I was visiting her. I was sitting whilst she was asleep reading the paper and noticed her chart. It had a graph and being a bloke I had to check out this graph. It charted her bowel movements. I put it back and put the information into my memory. She woke up and whilst still dazed I asked her did she want me to help her out of bed to use the toilet. She asked why. I picked up her chart and said because she hasnt had a bowel movement for the past 8 hours. Oh and there was laughing, lots of laughter. She did not laugh.

Nor did the nurse.

I told them they should all loosen up. I laughed louder, they did not laugh.

Little story to lighten the though of a camera up your bottom. Whilst my GF was in hospital a few weeks later she was in a room with 4 other beds. Two were occupied, one by an African American lady and the other by an extremely old woman. I was not sure whether she was alive or dead until she said "IT". The nurse was in cleaning around and the old woman sat up in the bed and considering I thought she was dead this caught my attention. She said to the nurse. "Where you not here till late last night as well? My god, they have you working like a black".

We all, except the old woman, looked at the american lady(black) whom just shrugged and said "ah, old people cant live with them, cant kill them". I said "wait", nobody found that funny.

Depends... if you're on private health insurance the camera is smaller.
If you're going public, they have a standard webcam on a stick.

Well if your getting the injection to "knock you out", make sure you tell the person doing that particular part to get the dose right. I had to go for the camera down the throat thing before (OGD test I think it is called), and the silly c*nt who gave me the injection didn't give me enough and I was not able to move but can remember I was like gagging fu*k on the camera as it was going down. I was up and walking around 5 minutes after the test, looking at people on trollies who had the thing done an hour or two ago and still had to wake up!

They won't do a colonoscopy without sedative AFAIK. I had one a few weeks ago. Nothing to worry about. Watched it all on screen and chatted with my consultant about politics the whole time

I woke up during mine screaming blue murder as they took tissue samples.
But the nightmare that is Picolax is awful.

Oh they will. MY gf and her sister were on so much medication including high doses of steroid injections that they felt the sedative would cause them to go into a coma possibly so it was not worth the risk so they simply went in without anything to soothe the pain.

I still remember how deliruos my GF was when she was coming to in the bed. She was like a raving lunatic and some people were getting a little upset because they were heavily drugged up. It was like a jeriatric ward(geriatric maybe). A nurse walked past and said "ah, she is recovering from her sedative"I said "what sedative, we are only in visiting somebody". again she did not laugh.

Were is the humour in the hospitals?

Any time I've gone into hospital for any kind of minor surgery they never give me sedatives. They tell me it's not necessary, then I hear everyone else is goosed up to the eyeballs.

I have had 2 done before. first time the sedavite didnt work could feel everything not very nice

2nd time they highered the dosage but still felt it. its very uncomfortable but its a pain you forget..
