Complaint against Ryanair lifeboat cocaine advert upheld

Ryanair used a photo of the RNLI cork drugs haul in Cork in a recent advertisement. The complaint referred to a newspaper advertisement by the airline which featured a lifeboat at sea with the caption DOPES??? THEY SHOULD HAVE FLOWN RYANAIR!! (WE WON'T LOSE YOUR BAGGAGE).

Another complainant to the ASAI found the same advertisement misleading and offensive and felt that Ryanair was encouraging drug smugglers to use its services, guaranteeing not to lose bags containing smuggled drugs.

Whether the add has been published or not O' Leary has already got the media attention he wants and that is what he thrives on.

Morons. Some people have no sense of humour. Does anyone really believe that they were trying to encourage drug smugglers to fly with Ryanair? They took a very topical story and put a funny caption on it.

What a load of crap! If their going to claim that its going to promote smugglers to use ryanair they should have to back it up with statistical facts like they're all too happy to demand off advertisers.

I admire their advertisement and media department. I believe it is all done at their head office by lads having a good laugh rather than being subbed out to some serious professional contract.

They lost my stuff too, twice. Mind I did get it back, first time after a few days and the other time after a couple weeks. Only carry on for me these days with them fellas.

Most companies don't have an advertising department, including Ryanair. Most then to have a Marketing Communications Team who's job it is to tie all the possible lines of advertising and marketing together and ensure they follow the set rules around branding.

The all use advertising companies who's job it is to come up with possible advertising campaigns and then pitch them to the companies themselves.

Its all perspectives ain't it!

Many with a bit of intelligence and kop-on will see the advert for what it is.
Slagging the stupid smugglers off for getting caught and plugging the airline at the same time.
No one person is being victimised in the advert direct (except the criminals!) and Ryan-nocare for a short period of time get to give us a quick laugh.

Over-stretching the lines of advertising? I'll leave that to the legal experts - but over reaction from the public - yes, a tad too much.
Not a fan of Ryan-nocare, especially on the on lost luggage claim - but we need something to laugh about these days.
I don't see the crowd in the Dail making us smile any time soon, even for a second!

What ever marketing communications team Ryanair have, they have put their foot in it once too often. Without his consent it is illegal, he didn't seem to give a sh*t about it and only wanted a e1.00 token, his misses a greedy bi**ch and ex model was pushing for e500,000 in damages.

Well she is a model in fairness so using her image would be a lot more costly. Also how many papers and news companies covered the story? May well have worked out cheaper than the 45,000 fine to do.

That case was ridiculed and thrown out of court, the company making these dolls also thrived on the publicity. I'm surprised there isn't an Irish company cashing in on making Voodoo dolls of Brian Cowen and Mary Harney. :pac:
