Depending on the card provider, money you lodge on the card (positive balances) may not be covered against fraud or theft.

Just a heads-up for those of you on this thread that seem to pre-load cash on credit cards for travel or future purchases.

I wonder if people voting "Sweet Fanny Adams" in the poll include people who do not have a credit card!

Have mine down to zero the last few months ( getting scared by the whole recession thingy). But, I've had it up to the limit (6k) previously. Even bought a motorbike on it once on a bit of a whim:eek:.

1998 Cb500s 2 years ago for €3.8k. Yeah, I know I should have shopped around. Though +100k km later its still doing the job:).

As has been said, they are very handy if used correctly. I pay mine off the day after using it so as not to get raped on interest.

No, banks love people that DD their CC, it means a higher chance of a returned DD hence bringing in extra dollars for the missed payment/returned DD on the bank account.

Yeah you should have shopped around, but in fairness, if it's still going strong after that much mileage....then it was worth it!

Pay off the full balance every month or even before the bill comes in after I make a large purchase. Right now $0 on it ($1,500 limit). I get 1% cashback which is nice. Automatic limit increases by company is turned off.

12 years ago i found it hard to book hotels without a cc, i cannot imagine what it would be like today. i would dread having to go through the travel agent

Usually have between 1 and 2 grand on it depending on whats going on in life. Had it all cleared last month though and have now got it back up to over 5k and there must be some more charges that have not been registered yet from my last month of galavanting around the place doing daft things.

Couldn't live without it though.

Maxed out a few cards three years ago while building the house, roof on one, walls on another, foundations on yet another etc, have zilch on only one card now.

Spend a ridiculous amount on CC each month (2k a month), any purchase over 20 quid goes on the card.
Very handy and saves me beeping money the whole time.

Clear it by DD each month. So never pay anything extra apart from the govt levy , 40 a year.

Anyone in debt to the card for a while should seriously consider getting a personal loan to clear it, as it will cost you circa half what you are currently paying.

If it costs more than 600 then I will put money into the card
If I can't afford to do that then it can wait

Want to get rid of mine only have 800 limit. Pay it off every month. Waiting til next year and hopefully they will reduce/get rid of the stamp duty:)

The amount of people I know oweing 12k 13k and so forth with nothing to show for it is unbelieveable. That would make sick.

Setup through direct debit, so its not " credit " for me and alot of others.

I pay the €40 fee every year and enjoy the savings online I get from the likes of play, cdwow, dabs etc.

I always pay mine off well before bank charges come in. I' m sure I owe something now as I just came back from a 2 week holiday and used it a good bit, but it'll be paid over the next few days once I can be arsed. Have had a CC for nearly 10 years and never paid a penny of interest on it thankfully. CC interest rates are so horrific I don't know why anyone with a choice (some people it is a last resort for, a bad one, but I digress) would willingly get into debt on a CC when credit unions etc and banks until recently were giving out personal loads fairly easily at much better rates.

10K limit on mine... had the debt up to 9000 euro a month or so ago... got it down to 2000 now... should have it cleared by the end of the month...

I blame the fact that I have a sucky EBS Yes card that works pretty much no where... so I have to resort to my credit card alot.

Had mine for 4 years, upped limit from 600 to over 4k and not paid 1c in interest nor do I intend to.
I can't understand why people don't use them, they are so damned handy. Just use it as a debit card.
It really isn't hard and anyone who says otherwise is very weak.

I have a Visa debit card, which works a treat. Accepted everywhere that Visa is and it comes straight out of my bank account, so I'm only spending money I have.

I refuse to ever own a credit card if I can help it. If I don't have the money to pay for something - I simply don't have it. I don't borrow the money. I just don't buy it.

Credit cards are a pile of crap. If I need to book something on the web, I just use 3V vouchers. Problem solved.:)
