Drunk and applying for jobs!

Nobody seems to want a graduate. It's really depressing. Was gonna go back to college for masters but it's too late to apply. I love the recession! Do you want to employ me

Applying for jobs now seems to be a full time job for me. I'm getting so fed up, i'd take anything. Will you be my pimp;)

BA Arts (French and Anthropology). I have 6 months office and localisation experience but i don't mind what job i get as long as it pays ok to live in dublin. Anyway, it doesn't seem to work. I am considering moving abroad but my partner is in ft employment and as of friday i will be unemployed so i am frantically sending off cv's at the moment to secure any type of job. Not gonna happen imo.

Depends on what jobs you're looking for. I hired a guy last week who's just finished his masters, and I have a girl starting tomorrow who has just finished her degree.

I remember cracking my first job after college and was really tough. Best of luck with it. Did you try temping? Some of those temp jobs lead to longer term contracts...

Thanks for the reply. Well at the moment, i am looking to go into an office job (administration, customer service) but i have applied for a lot of jobs that are relevant to my experience. I would like something demanding and have good references to back up my experience. I love where i am working at the moment but unfortunately the company is closing down.:( May i ask if there are any positions availabe in your company and in what area this is

I have been invited for one interview and have applied for over 50 jobs. It's a bit disheatening to be honest.

Never thought about this although i have applied for loads of temporary positions on jobs.ie, they never got back. Is there a site specifically for temp jobs

I work for a bank, and up until last week there were actually several jobs going, but we filled them all. There still seems to be jobs out there in banking, if that's something you might be interested in. Try using some of the agencies rather than applying directly to companies. That's where we get all our new recruits from, I can't remember the last time we even interviewed someone who had sent their CV in on spec.

If it makes you feel any better, before I started working in the mid 1980s, when there really was a recession, I had over 250 rejection letters before I finally got a job. Perseverence eventually pays off, just try not to take the rejections personally. Best of luck.

Thanks for the kind words. Yeah i applied for a few banking jobs too but i guess my degree is not relevant to what they need. There is a lot of graduate programmes for banks coming up so i will apply for them and see what happens. In the meantime, i perservere and see what happens. Thanks again.

I don't know, tbh, our HR department takes care of the dealings with the agencies. Whenever I'm recruiting they pass on to me any CVs sent in by the agencies that they think I might be interested in. I'd imagine the Golden Pages has ads for the various agencies where they list their particular specialities.

I'll top you Zaph - I did a Masters and sent my CV to over 500 companies if you can actually believe that before landing my first one - which was a temp job. Ironically I work in HR! But it was just after 9/11 and nobody was hiring. So perseverence is the key alright. Zaph's correct too about CVs on spec - they're never used in larger companies. Most of these companies build up a rapport wiht few agencies and then use those. My background was Arts too and I think you'll find that eventually you'll need to do a post grad to end up in the niche you find most interesting. Re good agencies, try MaryB, Office Angels and Orange.

Not that I'm aware of but you should register with a few good Recruitment agencies like Mary B Cremin, Office Angels, Orange, La Creme but again a lot of the agencies specialise in particular industries so if you want to target any industry in particular narrow your search by selecting the appropriate recruitment agencies. Phone a few of them, the ones I've mentioned are general so that's a start. If they are interested they'll ask you to meet them. Then they'll link you to vacancies they have that they think suit you. Voila and you're smiling :P Best of luck and keep up the spirit
