Coin counting machine - where in Dublin?

Apologies if this has been posted before, or is in the wrong forum.

I'm looking to find a coin counting machine somewhere in Dublin city centre. One of those ones where you dump in a bucket of coins and it prints out a receipt redeemable for cash would be perfect. Does anyone know of such a machine available for public use?

Also interested in any info on where to buy a cheapish & reliable home model...

I know a lot of the Supervalus have em....not sure if you're lookin to buy one or use one

Theres one in the Centra in Ranelagh. They charge you 10% for using it though, a f-ing joke really.

Same as Spar in Lucan. 10% rip-off charge must be standard through out the city. Do any of the Banks do em...?

securicor took money from us once and counted. It was a charity gig though so not sure about charges. Also she assured as she drove off that they rarely took money from charities :eek:

You can buy coin sorting machines. They're about £30 here, but thats for sterling. Dont know how much euro ones cost.

Centra in Drumcondra have one with the ridiculous charge for use. Not too far from the city centre

A new Coin Counter machine has been installed in North Dublin in Dublin 7.

There's parking available outside.

Location details as follows:

Current charge rate at 9.3%.

I fairness they have to empty the machine ( heavy coins) and bring to bank who charge too.

So you bring your large jar of loose change to the local Centra. Throw in the coins any up comes a total of €30. the machine issues you with a ticket which you bring to the till and exchange for €27.

To me thats better than looking at a large jar of coins doing nothing;)

You could count yourself? Then bring them to the bank. It's what I did once, got all the spare change I could get my hands on, came up to €90

I would imagine most people are putting in at least €100 at a go, any smaller is worth counting yourself. Shops will usually use the change themselves, they are the ones that are refused change from banks. Coins cost more to make than they are worth (i.e. it might cost 50cent to make a 20 cent coin). So the central bank wants it back in circulation. In the 80's I remember mcdonalds giving free burgers if you brought in £5 in coins, superquinn also had a similar deal with free donuts. Back then the shops were begging to get coins, I think banks charged them to get them.

These machines can be compared in price to any coin operated machines, but the user in this case is paying an average of €10 for "a go", far more profitable than arcade, sweet, coke or condom machines.

Supermarkets are losing out on a simple oppertunity, pay the few grand for a machine to take in coins, and then print out vouchers only usable in the shop- everyones a winner, and the shop doesnt even have to go to the bank for coins. I was hoping the self service aisles in supermarkets would get toll bridge style funnels where you just lash it in- similar idea.

The central bank should certainly offer the service free of charge, it is the taxpayers who foot the bill for replacing all of these hoarded coins at huge cost. If they got a machine for a few grand in the central bank it would pay for itself within a day easily, disgraceful that they don't

Count them yerselves, that's what I do.

Guys, count the €2 €1 and 50c yourself. Then machine the shrapnel. 10% of the total is actually less than the value of the time spent counting it yourself. If you take out the high coins that is.

Hi All,

I work for one of the coin machine companies. I just get sick of people giving out about the fee......Do you work for nothing? Why should I have to justify getting paid for my working week?

Circulation of Coin is a very complicated business, some of you have touched on some of the issues.

The shops mostly don't own and run the coin machines. It is a seperate and complicated business.

You put your money into the machine....what happens to it? How does the shop get back the cash they give you?
IF you can't be bothered to count a relatively small bag of coin, what makes you think that the shops are dragging out the extremly heavy vaults and counting it...have you any idea how long that would take?

The money must be counted and deposited to a bank account so that the shops can be reimbursed for the money they have given you. However the banks won't take coin, so it must be counted and credited by a company who has the gear.
The machines that do this are owned by big security companies like securicor or brinks, they count the coin, and out of their money they credit the bank accounts. Then they store it...because aswell as being heavy coin takes up alot of space, and then they sell it to the banks or shops. And you know what? they charge for doing all that!

Add to that the cost of the machine in the store, the servicing of it and all the back office stuff, the service charge is not all that high.

Sorry for being so annoyed it is just that common guys, I have to make a buck!

Bank only charge if you change the coin directly into cash. I never spend change, it pays for the things I like to do in my spare time, whether than be skydiving or MA. I change it every couple of months. Bag it, go to bank, lodge it into personal account. Then go to cash machine and withdraw it, simply no charges.

Years ago when I was a student BOI charged two euro for every hundred changed at the counter, so I used to change 95-99e each time. No charge and it used to p!ss of one of the teelers no end for some reason.

A lott of banks seperate the coins and weight them rather than count them.

depends how much money one has got in coins, for example i had over 150 in change, i'd say close to 75 of that was in coppers, i got charged nearly 15 quid such a rip off....
