I hate Chinese food.

There, I said it. Maybe I am eating in the wrong places, or I am not eating traditional
Chinese food, but I try to avoid the stuff as much as possible.

When I got off work today, I ordered up a chicken with black bean sauce at the new local.
Not impressed at all tbh. The food was somewhat reminiscent of rubber.
The glutinous/slimey texture and the amount of food items infested with good ol MSG doesen't help it's credibility either.

Why is this crap so fecking popular? I am aware that it is a huge seller(especially among
pub goers), but I don't understand why. Tbh, I would much prefare a sandwich, a steak, or an Italian dish.
Most of the restaurants tend to be very generic to cater for people who want exotic food, but is not too exotic.

Do YOU have a preference for this food over other food, or am I just a silly madman?

yeah there really is a big difference. For example....I've seen spring rolls about three times since I moved to China 5 years ago.

That's like a Chinese person going to McDonalds, not liking it, and stating that he hates European food.

Chinese food is arguably the best in the world. You just need to go to the right places.

Myfriend is Chinese and the stuff she makes is gorgous the difference in the taste even her egg fried rice is so much nicer.I usually buy whatever she is having in the chinese cause she calls the manager out and tell them what she would like

Eating Chinese food in Ireland in the local town places is not Chinese food tbh. Chinese people wouldnt be found dead in the place normally as they dont like the crap thats served around the place. From experience the closest you can get to China is on some of those places on parnell street in Dublin. Not the fancy restuaurants which server 1 dish but the more run-down places. They seem to serve the traditional food. The waitresses can't even speak english in those places which is always a good sign.

Go to China !

Be careful, even though you think you are visiting the Irish equivalent of Chinatown, about 1/2 the restaurants on Parnel/Capel Sts are MSG merchants.

FTW - the best Chinese Restaurants are a) the one part-run by the Chinese Embassy in Stillorgan and b) the other one in Monkstown.

I love chinese food but it all depends on the restaurant!!

In general if they serve "3 in 1's" stay away!!
The take aways that stay open till after the pubs are generally ****e but the actual restaurants can be brilliant! I've found that they are far more efficient and friendly than any irish restaurant!!

I haven't eaten in it myself, but the good world chinese restaurant on George's street always has a good few Chinese people eating in there any time I walk by, which must be a sign it's decent. Anyone been there?

The Good World is pretty good. Go there for lunch and eat some dim-sum, they're fantastic. If there's no chinese writing on the menu then ask for the chinese menu which has a lot more chinese food and less westernised takeaway food in it. It'll have english translations on most things.

This is as close to a cantanese restaurant as you'll get here. Similar restaurants are Millenium (outside st. stephen's green), Imperial (beside towers) and there's one in Castleknock village. They all do dim-sum, all sorts of tasty noodles, congee etc.

The normal chinese takeaway just serves you westernised chinese food which aren't great. There's a lot more to chinese food than what you'll find in these establishments.

The restaurants on Parnell St. serves authentic chinese food but they are not always that tasty. I've tried a lot of them and never really go back. I prefer the Good World and the Imperial.

Just in the door after a feed of pints and a chicken satay. I know that the average Chinese takeout is as Chinese as Brian Cowen but there's no denying it hits the spot when one has imbibed a few alcoholic beverages.

One thing that worries me is this: Chinese food is pretty much the only thing that hasn't gone up in price after the introduction of the €uro. Seriously, €6.70 for a main mean at my local takeout? I remember paying about £5 for it 10 years ago. Baragain if you ask me, although I shudder to think about the quality of the grub at the price.

You're definitely eating in the wrong places. Try going to proper restaurants, rather than take-aways. Look in particular for restaurants with a lot of actual Chinese clientele.

I hate 99% of the 'chinese' food served here its all rubbish.

That said there are a few very good ones in Dublin, one in Parnell Street past Fibbers serves mouth numbingly good Ma Po Tofu.

Still as an earlier poster said, you really have to go to China ...

Em... You probably won't find a dish called "chicken with black bean source" anywhere in China, or a good chinese restaurant in Dublin; It doesn't sound Chinese to me at all. I totally agree when the cook is horrible, Chinese food can be horrible, greasy and all that. But do try the authentic chinese restaurants and there IS a difference.
Personally suggest the Chinese restaurants on Parnell Street, cheap and good. I usually use the one opposite the exit of Moore street to Parnell, called Mandarin House.

After a mental weekend the only way to get your body goin again is to flush out all the toxins in your system. Best way to do this is take a big durty ****e or 3. A big sloppy, sweaty, spicey ring burner of a curry is a great way of achieving that result.
