Sitting here in work, gets a call, please ring Nicole - 01 8692285. Now this was an automaited thing calling. A guy across from me answers, some african sounding woman, asked his name, the phone number ‘they’ had callen. She then asks him his name again, how to spell it, then she says his own address which is correct. Wtf is up with that? Is this a new scam or what?

He asked what it was in relation to, she said she din't know who was calling him, very dodgey.

Someone just obtained his name and phone number. From that, using the phone book, they can get his address.
(maybe not in this case, as it was in work, but if it were a home number, yes)

I'd be very worried if i were him about what my bank statements are going to look like soon

Didn't bother calling back but now I've seen this it is really bothering me...

Could be one of those scams where the call costs you about 2.50 a minute and goes straight to their bank account.. Seen that on The Bill before lol...

I’ve not seen this scam but I’ve seen something similar

Here is how it works.
A women stands beside her car and anyone passing by would assume it’s broken down.
So if someone stops she asks can she use their mobile to call the AA or maybe her husband.

He pretends to make a call (talks to herself) but she owns the number that she is ringing and it’s billing at a collasal rate, maybe €50 per minute. Since she owns the number she can set her own price, nothing illegal here.

Similar scam here, you call their number and get billed a ripoff sum for doing it?

maybe it's a stepping stone process but how exactly they were able to tell him his address with the only evidence to suggest anything would be through government records?

Ya got this text too!, So rang it back giving a false ref number, got through to an indian lady. they said they where contacting me in relation to my Irish broadband subscription

Waste of time unless you have requested not to be called by coldcallers.It's prefectly legal unless you have. Don't have the number where you 'unregister' but I assume it would on the data protection site if they have one.

Just got the text today... following on from 3 previous calls....

I'm sure if they where cold calls trying to sell broadband, they wouldn't request a call back.. what sense does that make??

Better to get the person on the phone to sell, than sending them a pre recorded voice message or text with absolutely no informtion on what the call is for...

something that got sent to me in work email yesterday regarding a new scam claiming to be eircom engineer or some ****, ask you to dial #09n or something which enabkes them to use your credit, bill or whatever to diall these extorsionist numbers :eek:

http://www.intrum.ie/scroll.asp?ID=imgmenu6 Look at the similarity to their number. Perhaps this is a new way to get debtors to talk to them. Note they are very clever not to identify themselves when you call the number.

i rang the number gave my ref number and they said i owe money to ESB.
Gave me my old address and said it was my closing bill...
I said i'll ring back with a card number..
Im now officially changing my number.... Ha!!!!

Wouldnt suprise me, I had some dealings with this shower when a certain phone company kept billing me after i closed my account because their accounts dept was "swamped". A more ignorant shower of w***kers you wont meet. I'd hoped that they all caught face AIDs but apparently not.

I recently changed my telephone number ans today I recieved a message on my answering machine when i came in from work. It said to call Laura at 01 8692285. I called them back and they told me they are called Intrim Jusita or something along those lines- a credit collections agency!

I got a big fat debt collection letter from these people, wouldn't mind but it was in error. It said i owed a certain internet company 300 euro, which i didn't. To make it worse, the name of the company and the amount i was supposed to owe them were visible through the window of the envelope. I rang them raging and their supervisor rang me back and told me i could have them under data protection, as that is private and confidential innformation. I'd say the nosy postmistress where i live told half the town about me!! sorry now i never followed it up.
I can honestly say they are the rudest, most obnoxious people I've ever had the "pleasure" to deal with.
