Kingdom wrote: » Who was on the forum Wiger? With regards to a live scoreboard, the courses this year (for gents anyway) would be perfect. Glenville, Tullamore, Larkspur all have ample space and good positions where score boards can be placed and updated. I heard before some seniors to be annoyed at being asked for scores. I don't see how this can be annoying? As it is the guy(s) you're playing with (or against in Mplay) know how you're doing anyway! A score check every six holes wouldn't be out of order. As it is in Bridgets this weekend there will be a delay at the 7th anyway!
Wigertoods wrote: » ok here goes, Ray Murphy Liam O' Donovan (Although Gavin Carthy could prove a diffuclt opponent here) Jason O' Reagan (Some big names in this section though) Anthony Malone (if this was outside Dublin I'd go for Paul O'Brien,no offense Kingdom) Sean Downes Frank O' Donoghue Jim Judge Jnr (This was the toughest call of them all.Anyone in this section can get through, but jim can be tough when he gets a match under his belt) William Buckley Jnr (Altough John Walsh might have something to say about that) Some tough groups there but that's as honest as i can get without being biased in any way.no offense ment to anybody these are just my opinions.

C.lollins pg 127. thats your 2nd entry, mind you I have one struck through. while not being defeatest form sways a persons opinion and to be fair both skinner and o'brien are on form at the mo. Have to say too its a very good draw and as good as the cork lads are glenville is one of those courses that you're pitching will be rewarded, so I think there will be a lot of tight games from the so-called underdogs.

I must say, I am playing quite poorly at the minute, keep lifting my head and slicing off to the right horribly. Cant figure it out, so any advice would be hugely appreciated! Got my handicap sorted, a 6, which I felt was a bit of a killer but its my own fault for posting a good score in my first comp. to win best 18 nett. Not much movement on the P&P forum front here at boards.ie, have any of you guys ever thought about setting up our own P&P players website? Also, I've entered the Dublin Matchplay at Inter level, any advice on how that is played? Or even how it works would be great too! Its in Erins Isle I believe, which I have played once in my life.

If the NEC have someboby to follow each match, whether they be locals from the host course or delegates from each county board then they won't need to ask anybody their score. They can have PDA's or some form of electronic hand held terminal that can update to a central scoreboard and it would happen each hole instantly.

Kingdom wrote: » Draupnir, with the Leinster on this weekend (and work ) I won't be over there. Usually Shandon have two opens a year. Is this true for this year? As for the slicing, slow everything down. Keep the noggin down. If that still doesn't work, play one of the shorter holes a few times ( i think the 5th is a small enough) to get the confidence going. The Dublin matchplay is a good competition which anybody can win due to the nature of the earlier rounds! All matches up to the final are played over 18 holes. Usually the Inter section is quite competitive. I believe we've a former winner in our ranks here Wiger. As for a new website, such an endevour would take a bit of organising, so maybe something might crop up over the winter.
Kingdom wrote: » Wiger from looking at some of your posts on other sections you seem to be a techohead, however what your suggesting while excellent, seems expensive? Would it be a burden on the Unions finances.
Draupnir wrote: » Thanks for the advice, I will certainly keep the slicing advice in mind on my next practice. I dont know about a second open right now but will definitely inform the forum once I hear anything. I'm really looking forward to the experience of the matchplay, I cant imagine I'll do a whole lot of damage but it will be good to play and enjoy. In terms of setting up a website, I work in the software industry so may be of some value if/when we might come to do it. The future is definitely in live scoreboards, but I think P&P should pioneer the use of handheld devices by players themselves to mark their cards as they play rather than having scorers on the course. A system like that would allow for virtually instant updates and is something which our golfing brethren would be very interested in. There is a huge market there and it is relatively easy to accomplish, particularly with the iPhone and Mobile Device market as strong and widespread as it is.
Wigertoods wrote: » Quite a lot here, I should be down to shandon on Sunday for a round or two.Going to a wedding tonight so sat will be a day of rest me thinks. As for the slicing, there are many many causes of this. The most common faults in p&p for slicing are1 moving of the head/upper body before making contact with the ball.(don't mind the people telling you that you are lifting your head.seems to be eveybodys answer to slices).2 Standing too close to the ball and causing you to "adjust" your swing and you end up hitting the ball with the heel of the club.3 trying to force the shot. (i.e swinging too fast).Only the 8th in shandon would cause you to try this but some people feel they need to swing really hard to get the ball moving. If you keep these in mind then you should be fine. Dublin matchplay is normally held over the week evenings at about 6:30. All matches are over 18 holes up until the final which is 36 holes. Normally depending on entries you will only play one match per night providing of course that you keep winning. All players play off scratch in their grade. Hope this helps Draupnir
Wigertoods wrote: » I think the idea for digital hand held devices to mark cards is a great one and has been around for a while.I think the problem originally was not being able to digitally "sign" the card.Technology does now exist and this is the way foward. This is perfect for major events and the like, but for club competition it would be a lot harder to monitor as it would mean every player would have to have these devices as part of their "equipment" so to speak.

Guarenteed to be a good display of pitch and putt. If the sun shines it has the prospect of a fantastic weekend.
Wigertoods wrote: » It's unlikely that the course will be available for practise on the friday. If it is avoid it like the plaque any time after 11:00am.Every tee box will be full and you will be lucky if you get 36 holes in.Also more time will be spent talking to other people floating around than any actual "real" practise. If the course is open friday my advise is to get there before 9:00 and you will get 36 holes in before most are out of bed and then you can flute about all you like.

I remember back after I was first crowned champion for Ireland in '1975, I was delighted but the tournament in 76 was a discrace, (the good looking guys won everything, more brown envelopes than Bertie could manage I think!!) but that really put me off the sport, I gained a few pounds and done a Georgey Best on it but the wife beat me around a bit, I gave up the poitín, got straight back on that elephant and in 79 won the damm thing again!! Anyway the point is, Rome wasn't built in a day as they say, I can see this sport eventually building into something people will respect, with people like you, Harry, duggy and wigger woods and all the others that post here I can see a bright future for this thing!! I am going to be up at bordnameena the weekend, so I should drop over to kiltipper on my way home, the weather should be glorius (I hope the play can match it ) will you be there Mr Kingdom??
