i'm engaged and we are planning to get married in the next year or two but neither one of us is into traditional wedding thing and we don't want to spend a fortune. Would anyone know of anything different we could do. We wouldn't mind a civil wedding but is there any nice venues for it in limerick

First congrats, second I'm only 21 and the last wedding I was at was when I was 4 or 5, but how about a themed wedding? Not sure what you'd like but the tv programme called "Weddings by Franc" should give you some ideas?

A friend of mine is thinking of getting married in Sweden in an ice castle... Its mad expensive, but definitely different.

Depends on your numbers really tbh.

Havent ruled out this type of idea ourselves but just seems to be barriers at every turn.

Went to a restaurant in Dublin last week only to be told that they 'don't do weddings' even though we only wanted to have our meal there. Celtic Tiger obviously still roaring when they can afford to turn away guaranteed business :rolleyes:

And cold! It's not like James Bond makes out, you have to wear parkas and thermals and gloves.

i've stayed at the ice hotel. you sleep on a slab of ice in a russian-military-issue-style sleeping bag with only your nose exposed. even in said sleeping bag it's cold and damp- a bit like sleeping on the grass of in an irish field in autumn. ice might look pretty in the photos but in reality it's bloody ridiculous. why why why would anyone even consider getting married there?!?

Maybe you were wearing too many clothes? I was all toasty and warm when I stayed at the ice hotel and had the most awesome time

OP, my uncle had his wedding at Castle Lane Tavern, which was nice. They had it on Halloween and it was fancy dress, which was great fun and everyone but my grandmother loved it.

They got married a few years ago so had to have the ceremony in the registry office. But perhaps King John's Castle can do weddings now, which if they did would be convenient and quite a cool place to get married, imo.
