Considering that these are subscription services, one sucker downloading these ringtones can be an income for life... nasty, but this is how these people make their money.

And make money they do. If a kid gets caught in a subscription he/she might have spent 30/40 quid before they figure how to get out of it. Multiply this by the thousand, factor in the fact that these companies will do everything conceivable to avoid paying out refunds and consider that operating costs are very very low and you can easily see how the money to pay for the aforementioned ads is made.

I used to work for Regtel (the body that's supposed to be regulating the premium sms indsutry) and I've seen some very undehanded practices in operation.

If anyone has had any problems with any sms service please pm me.

Kids do. They're the ones being targetted by the ads, as everyone knows adults would have f*ck all interest in them. It's sick and even though it does pop up the rates (in tiny, tiny text amongst all the other shíte going on at the time) you can't really blame a young kid with a mobile if they subscribe themselves to these things.

I don't blame the kids at all. I think it is a nasty, insidious racket, and all my fellows who work in the phone industry would love 10 minutes in a locked room with jamster, believe me. I've had people had to change number because "stop" wasn't working. I always made sure to give them regtels no while I was at it.

I had to change my number once because one of the lads subscribed me to one when I was at the bar.

Could not get it to stop at all, even using the word it says to use to unsubscribe.

Good thing I wasn't on a bill phone!

Sadly, this is not an unusual story.

You should check with regtel if they can do anything for you.

Noooo, make it stop! The technician in my college computer lab was using this one all year. They've since replaced it with the (equally annoying imo) Nokia tone that fails before the end.

Not only are the ads annoying in their design, but the frequency of their playing is infuriating. Try watching any music channel on TV, at least two ads in every break will be for one of these services.

Also, does anybody remember the "silent ringtone" that sent out a high pitch scream that only people under 25 could hear? The fcuking thing was like one of those mosquito alarms.
