Sunday 10th feb, midday - 62/63 middle abbey street, Scientology Dublin - Who's in?

Since the other thread is moreso debating whether there IS an 11am on sunday, this is for anyone who's actually interested in making a protest against the Scientology center on Abbey Street. Gotton a few PM's so far, hope to see those faces repost here

Starting at Midday as some who have shown interest would need to get the train etc etc, and 11am is too early a mobilisation time.

The basic gist is a protest outside the building - Pickets, flyers, etc etc. The point of it all is for public and media awareness. Tying in with the London protests should get us more attention. Protest should go on until about 5/6pm. Youre obviously free to break for food etc at any time.

Wear a mask of your choosing. V masks are available on Amazon.com for about $9.99 USD.

And just to be clear, Protest is considered fail if;
A) Someone gets violent

Gardaí are called in to move us along
(lots of reasons this could happen, especially blocking pedestrian traffic).
C) People get disorganised and start wandering around aimlessly.

Also, David O'Doherty is on at 8:30 that night, if anyone's interested in that either

I used to fundraise on the streets so I'm used to people "confronting" me about anything and everything.

If you have read up on $cientology ( which I am assuming you did not )
then you would realise why this protest is taking place and I dont think you would be in the same frame of mind about the situation.

I think the fact that Scientology operates under the guise of a 'church' when in fact it's a business operating as such to gain tax-exempt status should be mentioned here.

As such it's aligning itself with legitimate churches, making it easy for them to play the 'don't you discriminate against me on religious grounds' card.

It's clever on the part of those at the top, those who really benefit while practitioners just get shafted, robbed, or sold what purports to be 'salvation' and 'enlightenment' when in fact they are just being taken for mugs.

On the surface it does appear to be bigotry, in fact anyone who speaks out against this organisation for the right reasons, after learning what they're about, should be praised IMO. But the waters will be muddied of course, I can't see this working as planned, which is sad.

All of the defendants were imprisoned, serving up to four years in jail. Coincidentally, they were tried, convicted and sentenced in the same courthouse that their agents had been caught burgling.

And thats just the tip of the iceberg.

I did read your post but I think your attitude is typical. Everyone has a right to protest, it's what makes a democracy. However, as soon as someone expresses a different opinion you go straight on the offensive. It weakens your argument greatly.

I have no problem with people practing their beliefs, even tho I am very anti-religion. If people want to practice what Scientology preech (that 75billion years ago an evil intergalactic Lord named Xenu put millions of aliens into volcanos in Hawaii (which didnt exist) and blew them up with Hydrogen bombs. The machines or "e-meters" they test people with are nothing more than a basic lie-detector, and a bad one at that. You can look up the blue-prints and patents on Google. They use these to con people into believing things and charge them for trying to be "cured". They have been repromanded for illegally practiving medicine in numerous countries around the globe.

They will also during many, many audting sessions find out intimite details about you (Particularly your sex live and orientation) and use these against you should you ever want to leave (See ex-scientologists). If you hesitate on something or not answer it they will keep digging at it to find out more over numerious sessions.

A religion will talk to you about their beliefs, what they offer and let you read about them. Scientology does not. They hide and charge people to find out (I think its aroudn the €10,000+ mark to find out about Xenu that I said above). This is generally as by the time you get that far you have been brainwashed by hours upon hours of "audits" and being forced to sit staring at alls. If it was a religion why wont they talk to you about what they believe and let you join of your own will insted of immediatly try and audit them and force them into becomign a member?

Scientolgoy are connected to numerous human rights violations. Ex-Scientologists will tell you how at the age of 10 were forced to work 10 to 12 hour days 7 days a week for $50 (AUS) a week and were removed from their parents care and forced to live in dorms with others and only allowed see their family once a week at best.

This is not a religion it is a dangerous cult. By posing as a religion they can claim their rights as a minority are being descriminated this is the problem. They are posing as a church to hide their lies and illegal activities (Italy, France, Germany, USA and more)

Yes, how many years ago? You think by this day and age we would have moved on. I am not a fan of religion however I have no problem with peoples own beliefs providing they actually put thought into it and find out what it means to them as opposed to just having been forced fed it or in the case of scientology, brainwashed.

Just look at the BBC Panarama documentary (May 2007). They are constantly following the journalist, interrupting his interviews, intimidating him etc. Are these the actions of a welcome and warm religion? Scientolgoy immediatly setup a website and released their own one notibly leaving out their intimidation of the him, plants in his hotel to watch him etc.

A religion is open and willing to accecpt questiosn and criticism. They go to great lenghts to track down, intimidate (and on occasions have killed) anyone who critices them. They will not let you ask them about parts of their religion without having to hand over money and be brainwashed through hours of "audits" and "tests".

They may be a minarity but does that mean that their illegal activities and numerous human rights violations across the globe should be ignored because of it?

Faith is something you should not be charged to have.
