Popular chocolate bars Mars, Bounty, Milky Way, Snickers and Twix, as well as Minstrels, Maltesers choclate sweets, will no longer be suitable for vegetarians, because Masterfoods the company who make the products, said it had started to use rennet, which comes from the stomachs of calves.
Masterfoods say this has happened because they changed the sourcing of the ingredients used, however, the Vegetarian Society said the move was "incomprehensible" and that they are "extremely disappointed" by this news.
Masterfoods admit they began using rennet from 1 May 2007, and non-affected products had a "best before date" up to 1 October.
Rennet, which curdles milk, is used in the production of whey, and the ice cream versions of all Masterfoods' chocolate bars will also no longer be suitable for vegetarians.
Paul Goalby, corporate affairs manager of Masterfoods is reported to have said: "If the customer is an extremely strict vegetarian, then we are sorry the products are no longer suitable, but a less strict vegetarian should enjoy our chocolate."
.....................why?
omg Mr. Goalby has as much sense as the Sony PR that accused Wii of being a novelty item.
