Do you ever think of a childhood buddy?

who you've lost touch with, wondered how they're doing. Or if they've passed away think of them in your prayers?.

For me I've a few but mostly its a mate from my childhood (David Reynolds) who grew up in Balcurriss Rd (Ballymun) with me. But was knocked down and killed in his teens, but year's after he moved away from Ballymun and out to Blanch..

I thought about this yesterday when I found rubbish dumped on the street. This annoys the hell out of me, when I looked it was a guys payslip. And the name and addy was from a mate I haven't seen in about 25yrs but still listed at his parents house.

Anyway, I've often wondered how 'David Reynolds' family has gotten on since his death. And do they realise he's still thought of by old mates..

Anyone else ever thought about hooking up with childhood mates, or just even throw them a thought occassionally?.

At the end of 2005 I met a girl I used to go to primary school with. At the time we had a laugh like kids do, holding hands in the schoolyard and stuff (only got reminded of that when her parents slagged us lol). And just last week I was browsing through Bebo looking for people from Ballyfermot to see if anyone jogged my memory. And there she was, she's now engaged! Aww.

Unfortunately I also came across the profiles of some blokes who used to make my school life a living hell.

I've often wondered what happened to a girl I was friends with when I was in junior and senior infants in St Peter's in Phibsboro. Her name was Niamh and she'd red hair. There's a great school photo of me and her which I still have to this day and I have the grumpiest face imaginable because I was embarrassed to have my picture taken with a girl.

Would be cool to run into her but I'd probably struggle to recognise her since she'd be grown up now.

A friend from primary school died during the summer. When I came home for his funeral, I got sunburnt though it was raining. He'd have fcuking loved that. He was the best guy. He ran a shop in the primary school, selling sweets for twice the price he'd paid for them in the shop at lunchtime, until he was caught by the teacher. The two of us messed around with cigarettes behind the bike shed when we were about 9 or 10 but couldn't get the lighter to spark. Just stupid kids stuff. His sister died 10 years ago last weekend and I was at her anniversary mass. I went to a tiny primary school, only 32 pupils at most over the 8 years I spent there. I babysit the kids of people I went to primary school with occasionally.

My brother is best friends with my best friend from pre-school's little brother, they went to the same secondary school. It's a small world!

I miss people from secondary school, but I see lots of them around too. There are a few I'm very sorry to have lost touch with, like Laura Quish. I broke my foot one night in a nightclub and she and her boyfriend were the only ones who'd help me while other people just stepped over me. There are other people I sort-of knew who I see out, but I haven't talked to them for half a decade, and I've nothing to say to them now. It's odd. I sometimes wonder where other people ended up too. There was one girl I hung around with in first and second year, but she left school before she was 16 to look after her brothers and sisters. Last I heard she had got into trouble with some of the local drug dealers where she lived. Sad, but such is life. I think it's only natural to wonder who the people you once knew went on to become.

ive a good story about this topic. Im 30 now and i had a good friend (gary) in my kiddie years and teens but we lost contact about 10 years ago. (We moved to different areas, no email address or contact numbers)

not long after i joined boards i posted a story in paranormal about a spooky experience that i had where gary was coincidently there when we were about 19.

turns out gary is a boards member! He posted a reply to the topic and we're back in touch since then! Yay for boards!

I found an old photo album the other day stuffed down behind a dresser I was moving in my sisters room. In it were old pictures of me and my old friends from the estate I grew up on. I found it upsetting to look at them. David Murphy and Sean Breenan were my best friends from the estate. David moved away when I was about 16. He still went to the same school but he stopped talking to us. Met him twice since then in the pub but its like we never knew each other which is ****ed up considering how close we used to be. I moved away when I was 18 and lost contact with Sean, but I wasnt really hanging around with him much by then anyway. Met him in the pub a few times too but I dont know what to say to him. I guess we were just friends of convenience because we lived so close, but id love to know them now like I used to. I think about them often.

great thread, logged onto that lost friends link and saw a few from the old school including a girl I had a big crush for in 5th class... and, amazingly a mate who introduced me to porn and 2000AD but who left for Scotland when times got ****ty around '85.

Another co-incidence, Mairt, is that I'm from Balcurris Road as well!!

i often think of a few friends from secondary school. my neighbourhood friends are out of my life by choice.

again, i'd probably have nothing to say to them, there was a class reunion recently but couldnt face seeing half the fúckin scangers talk about their brat children.

Ive lost touch with the vast majority of all my primary and secondary school friends. Incidently, a few weeks ago, I passed one of them in the street and all we said to each other was "Hello, hows it going?", and then walked on. I was great friends with this guy in primary school and secondary. How does that happen, that people you knew so well and had so many laughs with at one time in your life, just become faces in the street? How come after so many years of no contact people cant seem to rebuild any real form of friendship? That seems sad to me. I just graduated from college a few weeks ago. I had a great class, and although some of us agreed to meet up again at christmas and others, I know that our meetings will become scarcer and scarcer until the people who are now my great friends, will turn into virtual strangers. Life is sad like that

I am still friendly or at least still know all my childhood friends from, say 5 years old when you first start to have friends through to 11 years old. I also still have all my friends from 16 through to present day.

Thing is, I went to a different school from the age of 11 to 16 and it was not in my home town. I had some real good friends there and often I have had a thorough browse on Facebook, Bebo and Myspace to see if I can find them but rarely have much luck. Doesn't bother me too much now but used to kinda bother me.

I hung around there during the early 80's!.

Some names I remember from those blocks are 'Linda Douglas', 'Linda Wright', 'Noel (Skinner from Sheriff St) Rooney', 'Jerry Palmer', Patrick (Padser) O'Connor'.

Some great days up there, knacker drinking in the sheds, drinking and driving the ol' DT175's like crazy on 'the seven pitches'.

I remember I got invited to her birthday party in the Old Shieling in Raheny and thought all my birthdays had come at once! Put on my best clobber, gelled back my hair and got my groove on! Still couldn't woo her!

I suppose as a 6 year old, I still had a lot to learn!

Ah yeah ders loads, but I wouldnt name names..

Theres one girl T, who i used to 'get off with' at a youth disco, she kissed like a goldfish and bit the lips off me(i think she had train track braces). She got knocked down and killed in her prime. I didn't really know her that well but it was 2 or 3 yrs after we used to meet & i always remember the day before she died she came up to me in a real jolly mood in school. She had a lovely smile and the priest said somethin lovely about her smile lighting up heaven.

P was one of the 'hard' lads in primary & all through secondary school but really he had a heart of gold. He went on heroin very young when he was hanging around with the 'big lads', whenever anyone used to try and start on me he would row straight in & take my side. I always used to see him around the town and talk for a few minutes, talk about old memories & how alot of people thought alot of him & wished he'd get off. He would real optomistic for a few mins. I was away travelling when i phoned home another mate told me he'd been found somewhere in town, other junkies had taken his clothes.. it was real sad bein away when it happened, i think about his mam alot and would like to tell her that he had a good influence on me & i always remember him fondly, just so she doesn't think it was all a total waste.

Aye, I have my best friend from the age of 0-7 on facebook, but have never really made the effort to talk to him... Just feels weird at this stage, we both moved on and got on with our lives...

I made my first communion with her and we were friends untill I moved away, we stayed in contact for many years but then fell out of touch.

Awe her 6th birthday! I was at her 7th, that's mad. She had a magician and I loved it! Wierd talking about her on here. I did make contact with herlast summer and got a mobile number from her, we text a few times and then I called her once or twice but she never returned my call......

Her folks must have been a bit well-to-do!!...They had a clown at the party I was at, making all sorts of animals with those twisty balloons! I was lucky to get a meal out of McDs for my birthday off my folks!

I can rest at ease now I know she's alive and well in Termonfeckin. I'm up there in the next few weeks playing Seapoint Golf Club, I might try and look her up!
