Got a text, not meant for me!

Hey,

I am sure this is common enough, but I recently got a text message -absolutely nothing seedy about it, a straightforward message - but it was meant for a mobile telephone number very similar to mine.

So, being the polite person I am, I replied and said " Sorry this is meant for someone else, etc." So the texter, sent a very apologetic reply and as it was late in the evening, was afraid that I was awakened by it or whatever.
So I said, not at all, that it could happen anyone.

So many weeks later, we have a texting situation going on! And it is actually, quite good fun if not expensive on the mobile phone bill! It turns out that both of us (Me Female, and He Male) have a lot of interests. We describe day at work etc. It is real teenager stuff. Nothing will ever happen cause it just won't and that is the truth.

I am just wondering if this has ever happend to anybody else?

I think you hit the nail on the head! A distraction from the mundane - especially at work. Not that my life is dull, as one poster suggested - it is not! I think some of the posters are quite cautiously pointing out the OBVIOUS - I kinda have been around a while and I am not a total fool, thank you very much - while some others can see the FUN side of it. I think if I was a male and posted this message, I'll bet the advice would have been, well, definitely different, as in

go for it matey!!!:D

Yeah, it's great when you're having an argument with someone and that someone was meant to text a friend all the **** they hate about you but sent it to your phone by accident. Happened to my mate, was teh funneh!

Yes, I think you are SO right - a preposition (not that the YOUNGER generation would know what THAT means) which is being used constantly in conversation, emails and TEXTS. And, OP is not ass

My mobile number is very similar to the text number for some radio station in the west. I'm 087AAABBBB and they are 087AAAABBB.

I get an average of 3-4 texts every week at all times of the day with answers to competitions.. Eg, 'answer is 1984, Mary Byrne, Athenry Galway'.

I used to just ignore them but I got one of these messages when I was in the pub one day with my mates and showed it to one of the lads. He put his phone on private number and rang the woman on who texted in... The phone was on loudspeaker with everybody listening:

HIM: "Hello is this Mary Byrne from Athenry"
HER: "Yes, who's calling"
HIM: "Mary, you're live on air. Can I ask you what was the answer to today's question?"
HER: "Oh my god, I love the show, the year was 1984"
HIM: "Congratulations, you've just won €2000"
HER: "What? I' can't believe it!! I thought the prize was a CD"
ALL OF US: Ha ha ha ha ha ha

Now we take turns ringing winners every time I got a text and we would be telling the delighted winner they've won anything from a trip to New York to a Shetland Pony!!

No offense Honeybunch, but if i was going out with you/married to you and i found out about your texting habits, things wouldnt be fine and dandy! Id wonder what other secrets you hold and like you analogise, id wonder what you would be capable of getting up to on a night out with other men?

Imagine if you had an accident or died and after your died your other half was going through your diary/phone and found those messages. Without you there to justify them, it wouldnt be very nice?

If you cant be open with your other half and all that... OK i know im sounding like the moral brigade but coming from a guy who used to be a meanie... its just not nice!

Oh come on, as well as being very innocent texts, do you think I would keep them on my phone? I delete on receipt!!!! And with regard to what I get up to on a night out be it with men (or mixed company for that matter) is not the picture you are painting!!! People flirt ALL THE TIME, all ages, at work, at play - most of the time it is harmless - hey, I have been at the receiving end of it from, as you would say "meanies", probably like you! If you think for one second that anybody's "OTHER HALF" is TOTALLY open, you are quite seriously, on planet ZOG! Check it out! That said, you seem to be missing the point - or like other posters, making a mountain out of a mole hill in this case! There are people out there who can carry on a friendship without the "When Harry Met Sally" outcome! I will put it to you this way, if it was a female who sent me this text, I would have replied in the same manner, and if it continued, yes, I would continue returning texts as well! But of course, the "ME TARZAN YOU JANE" male attitude is typical and, from my point of view predictable as well.

Glad you are enjoying the other posts as well and I hope you see my point without offending you - having a HIGH moral attitude can also be a burden!

Kind of similar, but not the same. Funny though, so i'll post it!

In the pub one night, lads drinkin away, one of the boys gets a text off a girl in US (came home early from J1 to repeat exams) who he had been knockin boots with over there. She was irish too, and known by some of the lads. Anyway, 'john' reads it out and shows it round: "hey sexy, missin u loads, wish u were on top of me etc. etc..."
Quick as a flash 'barry' swipes the phone off him, and replies "hey, john is just in the bathroom at the moment. barry here, good to hear from you. i'll pass on the message" Big laugh had by everyone, even her (albeit a slightly more embarrassed one!!)

Im afraid you are on planet Zog Dear if you think this is harmless fun. When your hubby finds out, and he will, he will feel betrayed, cheated on. What you are doing is innapropriate behaviour for a married person. Nothing wrong having a flirt in the pub on a night out, what you are doing is starting a relationship with this man, either you or him will mess up and forget to delete your texts ( the fact you are deleting them tells me you know this is wrong already) and people will get hurt. I certainly hope you are not discussing your marriage with him, a stranger, im sure hubby would like that, no matter how much he trusts you !

But if you feel you have missed out on something and want to relive the teenage years..........who am i to judge ?
