Accommodation near WIT ???

Hi, I hope to start a new course in WIT this September and i'm looking for accommodation, thats close to both the city center and the college campus.
Can find some on Daft.ie but does anyone have and of the websites for any of the college accommodation and also any views on it.

My home is in Waterford so I don't know much about this stuff, however a lot of people in my class are staying at Manor Village.

Personally i wouldn't stay there......I heard it was great for first years but not so much after that.......Theres also riverwalk, The new one by tesco poleberry very near to the college street campus....or try and get digs..or a private house

There are student apartments in railway square afaik. There is the student village out near superquinn (cant for the life of me remember the name). Strawberry hill. There are loads of them.

Which campus will you be on?

Thanks i'm not too keen on staying in a student village that going to be mobbed with first years drinking! i've been 4 yrs in college already to looking at doing a masters in WIT so some where quite with post grads or professionals would be grand

The Main campus on the Cord road i think, going to be doing software development so which ever campus thats on.

If you want somewhere with professionals/older crowd than the place in poleberry also rents them privately i think its 10-15 more expensive than the student version....otherwise i'd say your best bet is to try find a house near the college

My parents have a house about 10 min from WIT in Lismore Park. E70 @ week for a double room & E60 for a single.

Hi, I stayed in Aylesbury Manor apartments in Watreford City, next to the Art College, tesco and directly accross the road from the new cinema. I found the location excellent, in the right end of the city and a short distance from the Institute.

I think the accomodation is very good here and I hope to move in again for September-at least its well priced and you can get a night's sleep!...

Good luck house hunting and remember unless your in the City you're missing lots..

If you go into the main college atrium, there is a stand with (normally) someone there giving information about accommodation near WIT. Its not there all year but it is for the moment,

There main focus is Manor Village which is run/owned by WIT - but the reviews I have from people who stayed there is to stay well away. Iv seen first hand the problems with the apartments, and a discusswhich isnt pleion was held on it here. As a result of the negative feedback I gave Manor I was rudely removed by security and told I was banned. Mainly people go there as its good crack for 1st Years (as was said).

The best apartments so far iv seen have to be Railway Square. The apartments over by Superquinn are similar to Manor Village but without the problems Manor has.

Templers Hall is popular, near the college. Not sure what its like, but its beside the Halting Site.

Lismore Park is also popular, but I do believe there can be a fair bit of trouble around that estate hence why some Pizza companies refuses to deliver there.

Thanks, Great to get feedback, heard that Lismore can be trouble some. Whats closer to the river like, on The Mall St and Coal Quay, is it beside the centre? also does it take long to walk to WIT main campus to the city centre and to where the river is their?

A friend of mine stayed in Templer's Hall last year. She liked it. Its about 10 mins to the college from her front door (she lived well into the estate). She had a decent sized room and it was on-suite.
I had another friend who lived there but she moved out before X-mas, not 100% sure of her reasons, but I think she didn't like the people she was staying with. She ended up moving to RiverWalk, which in my experience are very nice and I think they are cheap enough too. I think both places where in or around E60-E80 a week.

Thank You - thats the name I couldnt think of! River Walk (thats the apartments over by Superquinn) are like Manor, but much nicer. Some people say they are to small, but my brief encounter with them was good. Nice sized bed-rooms, Kitchen come Dinning Room was medium sized. Thats all you really need. Thought they were larger then Manor myself.

Friends of mine looked into Templer's Hall, and I know of people who have praised it. Id be a bit conserned mainly due to its location but iv never heard anyone suggest that it has had a negative affect.

I don't know of any decent apartments/houses on that area. Most of those houses / apartments are old and near derelict by the appearance. I know of people who stayed in some, and didn't like them. Transport to the college from the Quay is easy enough, Bus Eireann go every 20mins I think. A bus stop is right outside Railway Square apartments also.

Thanks Sully, their is a few up for rent near the river on daft.ie they look clean inside but they are going cheaper then i'd expect,
How about around Morrison Road, Penrose Lane, Leamy Street, well surrounding areas? they seem to be all in walking distance to both town and the main campus.

I dont know the street names that well in Waterford as I live outside the city! Id say if you asked in the Waterford Forum they could tell you what they would be like - as most posting are from the city unlike me!

Check out the apartments of course before you decide. Make sure you know all costs invovled, and the location (near clubs, might be to loud - not to sure what your looking for!).

I think a house is your best bet, the cheapest option is gettin a house with a few people through agency rather then by room basis on student listings, thing is you'll prob hav to sign 12 month lease,

Have to say that i quite enjoy living in manor with all me mates. Mainly cos of the fact that there is a bus that takes you to and from college in the morning and evening for free (im lazy) and also because it is so close to the main nightspots in the city.

Just heard there are still a few room availavle in Aylesbury Manor in the City which are across from the new cinema...I just moved in again for the 3rd yr-I compared the price and the location to many other places and I think its the best and very reasonably priced.

I did stay in Riverwalk for a few nights with friends but I was'nt impressed with the area. As for Railway square, I think that unless you have surplus cash, this is an expensive option. In Manor Village and the other accomodation offered by WIT, while the location is not bad, there is very little to do after a while, there is an over-supply of first years students renting there and security has been an issue for some time.

I would really recommend Aylesbury, its kept well, safe and the location is spot on. Roll on Year 3!...

I did stay in Riverwalk for a few nights with friends but I was'nt impressed with the area

I've just booked an apartment in Riverwalk for the coming year and was wondering what aspects of the area you didn't like. Is it a bit of a dive, or is there just not much to do around the area?!

Also, has anybody got any opinions on the quality of the broadband at Riverwalk? i.e. Is it capable of online gaming?

The area itself is fine. My home is just up the road from Riverwalk. There isn'y a whole lot to do in the area but town is 15 minutes away.

No idea about the internet facilities in rw.

Don't think you'll be able to play games on the connection! Half way during the year they blocked all the ports, couldn't even use msn!

The speed is awful anyway, some times ya couldn't use it!

Does anyone know if there are any bus running from the dunmore road area to the WIT. I know Kenieleys used to but I dont think they do anymore. And as far as I know there are no bus eirienn bus's going from the Dunmore road to the WIT. Does anyone know if there any private bus's going from the dunmore road or surrounding area to the WIT?

bit late with a reply here but just in case you haven't found out yet - no direct buses from dunmore road to WIT, the best you can manage is keneallys bus into town (drops off on the quay) and a bus eireann bus from town out to the cork road.

A, C & D are all right beside the College St Campus effectively. 5 minutes max, if you were crawling.

B is too far away unless you are driving. It's a few minutes walk from the hospital.
