Do you mean the Apache heli discussed in this post ?

Mine was € 180 approx. I got the higher spec version (there are two) with the 4-channel radio and lipoly batteries.

Having mucho enjoyment with it

yeah thats the same one, i want one of those, didn't know there were two versions, just saw one in the shop window for 200 notes, are they easy to fly ? whats the danger of someone whose never flown one crashing it on first go, and if they do crash do they break, can you get spare parts easily enough, where did you get your one for 180 ? cheers

i got mY 4 channel apache off ebay for 75 euro much more like the price that should be payed.

you can also get it shiiped over from a lot of uk shops for a lot less than dundrum are selling them for,

The Dundrum shop may be selling a different Apache from the one you got on Ebay
So if you paid that lower price for it maybe you got exactly what you paid for.

There is a "good" version, and a "cheap" version of this heli.
Check the differences ....
The cheap Apache has:
... 2 channel radio on 27 mhz (same as model cars, CB radios)
... heavier nimh batteries capacity 350m mah
... Shorter flight duration
... Limited steering capability - 2ch transmitter sticks move one way only

The link you provided describes the higher version in the text, but it shows the "lower" version in the picture, and that battery in the picture is definitely a 350aAh nimh, not 1000 mAh lipoly.

The Apache I bought myself at Green Hobby, Harolds Cross, (where I work) has:
... 4 channel radio, with both sticks moving up-down, as well as side-side
... lithium poly battery capacity 1000 mah in a protective cartridge case that clips onto the heli...
... Flight duration 15 -20 minutes

Here is a picture of the gear that came with my Apache so you can compare.... Apache link so you can see which version you actually got from the UK. In particular look at the battery to see which one you got.

The Irish model shop I got it from (not Dundrum) will not sell the "low version" Apache over the counter due to it's 27mhz frequency 2 channel radio. The Green Hobby, Harolds Cross, Apache is the 4-channel, 1000 mah lipoly battery version.

My personal experience is that no modeller can fly properly on less than 4-channels, and models with a basic radio do not last long before accidental writeoff "takes them out".
I would think that every aeromodeller in the country would agree with this advise, and to sell the 2 channel version would earn an Irish shop a reputation for ripping people off with shoddy gear.
Up till now I have never seen, or heard of, a serious Irish model shop, club member, or club website advise the use of 2 or even 3 channels for flight .... just toyshops.

yep i think you maybe right.

i knew about the lipo battery and the 4channel verses 2 channel i looked out for that but i didn't know what the different models looked like to be able to spot it.

after i ordered it and posted here i came accross another forum rcgroups and i saw the pictures and all the horror stories of the rubbish "up and down" 2 channel.

i have a twister V2 aswell but im to much of a beginner to fly it so i thought i would go with a twin blade setup to learn on.

i will just wait for it to arrive and if its a 2ch i will clam my money back, and go local to buy a proper one (like i should have done in the first place)

i think i have been out to Greenhobby one day but it was closed.

is that the one at the side of a house with boats in the driveway?

how much are you guys selling the 4ch for?

i got the apache from china and it is the 4 channel model. full control and great fun:D

so €75 euro is much better than the €200 others are charging for it.

goes to show the markup on them.

Does it have the 1000mah battery?
The pic showed the cheap 350 mah nimh battery. That nimh one is 1/3rd the power.
The lower cost charger and battery would easily account for the price difference.
As I said earlier the nimh variant of this would be approx 80 selling price in Ireland, if Irish shops decided to stock it. The Irish shops have all gone for the 1000 mah option as far as I am aware.
That would be based on the desire of modellers to fly for longer duration.

but it is a Lipo battery.

it comes in a protective cartridge case that clips onto the Apache like you described.

but it takes quite a beating. i reakon i have crashed it a dozen time so far and all is well. good to see it holding up to a bit of really bad beginner flying.

The plastic cartridge gives it some protection ... which helps ....sounds like the 1000 battery from what u say.
