Has anyone ever got their official Licence / Age Card not accepted when trying to get served ?

My mate was at Slane last year, just turned 18. He goes up to one of the beer tents, asks for a pint and shows the guy behind the bar his driving licence, prefectly legal and above board. The barman looks at it and tells him its a fake, something about the line not going directly through the letters telling you what kind of licence you have, what sort of car you can drive, etc. My mate obviously disputes this, so the barman said, "Go find me a garda and prove that its not a fake and then i'll serve ya".
So my mate goes out, finds a garda and explains his predicament to him, the garda, being very sound, goes up to the barman with my mate and tells him that the licence is perfectly legal and to serve my mate his pint. The barman then proceeds to tell the garda that the licence IS A FAKE !!! The garda told him to cop on and serve my mate his pint, which he did.

The pint was rubbish but the look on the barmans face was priceless !!!

Anybody else have to deal with this kind of rubbish ?

I'm Canadian, but have been living in Dublin for like 17 years or so. A few weeks back me and a few mates headed in to town. Went to Redz, got IDed. Produced my perfectly legit Canadian passport and got the "Well, I've never seen one of these before" reaction. So I jump on him sayin "What, a passport?". "Your accent certainly isn't f***in' Canadian."

I got in.

ye, but you need a passport to get a garda ID so why do you only accept garda id?? not the consumers fault, your companies fault. of course people get pissed off when the can leave the country with their passport, and cant buy a can in their local tesco. there should be some form of universal standard ID that would be accepted everywhere without question. maybe a chip in the card with every bouncer having a handheld reader?

if someone braindead bouncer took my passport, i'd ring or find a gard. simple as. i'd also make a written complaint to the club. sooner these monkeys are regulated the better

I hate 'Garda ID only'. Why not accept the passport, or any form of ID that you have to use your birth cert to get? My Garda ID will take ages to arrive...bah.

I know this is going a little off topic but anyway.

I've only been asked for ID 3 times in my life.
Once in conways in blackrock (was a regular and there was a new bouncer on didnt like the look of me) luckily one of the barmen was out for a smoke break and told him to cop on. (about 8 years ago)

2nd time was in Florida 5 yrs ago (expected it eventhough I was 27 at the time)

But most bizarrely was january this year on a business trip to hawaii (hard life I know) with the MD and had met 2 suppliers who invited us out for a few pints and the bar woman asked me for my ID being 32 I hadnt expected I'd need it but luckily the hotel was only around the corner so legged it back. needless to say the passport came everywhere whith me for the rest of the trip.

I hate being IDed...though a lot of the time I can buy cigarettes/alcohol/get into concerts because I look older than I am, but sometimes in the same day I'll get asked for ID proving I'm over 18 and elsewhere to prove I'm Under 16!

Most restaurants in the US, particularly large ones, instruct thier staff to ID everyone who looks 40 or younger. Failing to do so is usually an on the spot dismissal offense.

someone i know showed there id to a bouncer and he asked "whats your date of birth" and then my friend said what? then his DOB but the bouncer wouldn't let him in saying it was fake and he memorised his dob

Those signs are so confusing, the staff don't even understand them. A few times now i've heard of people having arguments with staff cos they won't serve under 21's. utter stupidity

I was heading to a casino in australia last week and the security guy gave my passport more of an inspection than any airport security has.

He must have spent the guts of 2 minutes looking at the passport without saying a word. He looked through every page of the passport and examined all the stamps and looked at me and compared it to the photo for ages.

Eventually he said ok and let me in. Was kinda weird.
