they are in an eircom branded box but will work with any DSL provider (apart from magnet and smart) if you simply change the username and password in the expert>connection tab to whatever you want . they could work with smart if more settings were changed

its a netopia 2247 , good piece of kit for €24.99, if asked for a phone number give them an 01701xxxx number

every PC World actually . I have bought 5 so far and have them working on Digiweb and BT to name but a few

All the settings are perfect bar the username and password which can be changed in a jiffy if you fire up a browser and hook it to http://192.168.1.254/ and then follow these simple instructions here (do not use the feckin CD that comes with it, junk it )

Xtravision or one of the electrical chains like Comet or DID may also have this eircom bb in a box package at that price, ring and check.

Excuse my ignorance but will this work with Irish Broadband wireless? I'd like to think it doesn't matter because ultimately it comes in via a cat5 cable which can be connected into the router but I'd like to be sure. Anyway, great deal - I've been looking for one.

It _could_ if you persuaded it that the hinternet was not out thru the ADSL port but on the hub (it is a 4 port hub and wireless hub)

You would have to disable the internet (the WAN interface) completely I would wager but maybe not . Have not tried that one but I will if they install a freebie for me

for testing purposes .

you could always hard code an ip address like 192.168.100.1 on the ADSL interface to keep it quiet if you could not actually disable it.

By the same logic if it worked with IBB it would work with Metro too.

You will also need to make sure the DHCP server bit of the Netopia ( in the expert config somewhere) did not START assigning IP addresses with 192.168.1.1 as it does now , changing the start of the DHCP range from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.100 will stop that . Do this before it 'conflicts' with the IBB box whose Gateway I will wager is 192.168.1.1

By the same logic you should turn off the DHCP server on the IBB box to 192.168.1.99 so that no address can be assigned twice or other confuzzlement or else turn off the Netopia DHCP but then what happens to the wireless clients ??

Are you saying this can't work with Smart for sure or not? I don't see why it wouldn't but I don't know enough to be certain

it will work with Smart but you will need to change more settings than username and password . It will not work with Magnet , at all I'd say.

Here's the product set up guide for Netopia Model 2247NWG-VGx, with manuals and firmware:http://www.netopia.com/support/hardware/2247w.html this model is ADSL2+. If the 2247NWG-EIR is just a rebadged version of this model then it should support Smart and Magnet.

I had to get a patch for the 3347 nwg to work on Smart.

you can use this to replace your existing adsl modem,
this will give you 4 ports to use for ethernet, and wireless capailities

It prolly is. You see, it's actually the Eircom BB package you're buying and the modem is free. Technically they're only supposed to sell it to potential Eircom customers, or at least that's what the sales dude told me.

Ok bought one of these yesterday in PC World Liffey valley after reading the thread here, took it home to set it up and started to browse Boards.ie to get the instructions on the link from Sponge bob, and then i discovered this thread in the broadband section

So maybe this ain't such a good deal afterall, it was a silver one i got, i presume they are all the newer model in the starter packs, not sure what to do now, may have to bring it back, ive had broadband for about 3 years and was only buying the starter package for the wireless modem, anyway just posting to let others know of the potiential problem with the modem.

ps. not sure im linking the thread properly i may have to try and correct that in an edit.
