So...how do YOU celebrate Hallowe'en ?

So... seeing as it's Hallowe'en and all i though i'd put this topic to all our non-Irish newcomers into the country who use Boards. How would it be... not quite celebrated, but how would this event be seen in your homeland ? would it be a big firework festival, a good excuse to drink with friends, nothing happens or what exactly WOULD happen ?

Just wanted a brief insight into different customs and if they would consider a pagan festival like this important or not.

I suppose Irish ppl could post if they wanted to, just that i'd like the input from our new arrivals as the main subject

Lived with an African lady last year - I worked a nightshift for Halloween night and when I saw her the next day she told me she had locked herself in her bedroom for the previous day and asked what had all the disruption been about - that she thought this part of Ireland was peaceful now?? Only then did I realise she didn't know anything about Halloween or fireworks - which I would have obviously told her about in advance if I'd known. I can only imagine she thought it was some kind of battle or something. :eek: She is of a very nervous disposition anyway though.

Bought her a Barmbrack to try and make it up to her which she enjoyed but tried to explain all about rings, pieces of cloth and coins etc which she though was ridiculous, lol.

I dont think any new non-nationals in cork would have a clue what you were
on about tbh. One lousy firecracker is all thats gone off as far as i can tell
although i think i heard one go off in the distance a moment ago.
Quiet on the roads too.
Sounds like its a lot better in dublin though.

Well its not big over in SA, some kids would do the whole tricka-treating thing but not very common. We would usually just have a big house party, but then there was a house party every weekend of the year so not really any different. Went to a fancy dress at some school hall once, it sucked ass so we went to the house party

I dressed up as a priest. You get some very interesting characters when you are dressed as one. So many confessions and flashings.
My friends dressed up as John Rambo, a knacker, a devil, the corpse bride, a female vampire(corsets woo!), some pirate girl out of Pirates of the carribean(corsets woo!) and a french man.

Was there a crazy amount of playboy bunny girls elsewhere lastnight? It was crazy.
Woke up with an empty bottle of something on my right that really smells and an empty bottle of buckfast in my left hand and for some reason I can't really walk. I think somebody was kicking my shin. Had to hobble to my lab now ugh.

With so many people dressed up in black and gothically last night, I declare it the best day of the year. Yep, I declare it.The best costume I saw had to be a girl dressing up like a schoolgirl from Battle Royale two, flashing collar and all! The corset poeple also get a shout.

The best costume i seen was a guy dressed as Borat, he grew his hair and a moustache and looked the image of him...
