Birthday Present for my ould fella

Basically, (whisper it), my ould fella is turning 50 this month, and I'm trying to figure out what to get him, on a fairly small budget, say €200.

Problem is, he doesn't really want anything that will remind him he's 50 - he hates the thought of it - and he wouldn't really have the time or inclination for one of those 'adventure' vouchers for flying or rallying or whatever. I've been on topgifts.ie but didn't see anything mind-blowing over there. He says he justs wants us to donate money to charity, and we're already going away for it - so I'm stumped!

Any ideas folks? Cheers

How about sponsoring the tiger in the Dublin zoo.... the one that ripped the idiot girls arm to shreds.... you can say it cost an arm and a leg :-)

Other ideas...... how about a selection of gift vouchers....

- national concert hall ( something different )
- ticketmaster ( loads of comedy acts )
- years subscription to sports / movie channels
- gym membership
- water feature for the garden, one of those barrells / fountains of the like

hey thanks for the suggestions thus far

unfortunately - and you'll begin to see why i resorted to the net for answers - he isn't a big drinker (out for his 3 weekly pints tonight), he's not sporty, he much prefers being out on the farm, for which he already has every imaginable useful implement there is, and the theatre/television would be a no go too...

gee i'm going to have fun figuring this out in the next week - thanks though, keep em coming!

Dads are always hard to buy for. Try going in with someone else who is getting him a present and say get him a weekend away within Ireland. Wont cost an arm and a leg and it'll give him some time to unwind and appreciate your gift to him:p

Hubbys are VERY tough to buy for. They buy what they need and don't think to wait and say "Boy, I sure would like ________."

Seriously, though, the previous suggestion of a Laz-E-Boy recliner sounds good. Though, I think they might be slightly over your budget, any of the decent ones I've seen are anyway. What man wouldn't love to be relaxing in front of the telly in one of those babies, eh?

Does he have any favourite magazines or anything he regularly buys? If he does, perhaps a year's (or more, if it's available) subscription to it for him.
