Odd title I know, but it cant really be put into a title.

Basically, what the question is is do yis like it when you are, say, walking down the street and lads on the top deck of a bus knock on the window to get your attention, or builders whistle at you. Do you regard those who do this as a bunch of scumbags with no respect for women or do you smile to yourself and think "wow, Im hot!". If you never get whistled at/lads on the bus knockin at you, do you feel left out?

Best I saw was walking down Henry Street one afternoon, sunny day, great weather. Anyway, animal blonde bird walkin maybe 10 feet ahead of me, wearin a top and a sort of veil like dress thing through which you could see her arse and her dental floss thong as clear as day. So anyways, Im walkin along behind her like Father Ted after that author bird who stayed with him was telling him about how she used to jump on the husband and ride him right there in her porch (aye, you recall THAT scene

) and the bird ahead of me walks by a group of the Dutch Gold Appreciation Society, who proceed to drunkenly shout along the lines "ah yeah bitch!" "id spunk in your eyes" and such.

To which she looks back at them, ABSOLOUTELY DISGUSTED. Like, the fierce look she gave them, a sort of "show some respect!". As if she had expected to walk around town with her thong on show and not get lip? Hilarious

How do you work that one out? The sheer suprise on her face was what got me, as if she honestly had not expected anyone to say anything. Its like being shocked if you walked down the Shankill Road in Belfast and got beaten up while wearing a Celtic Jersey

Ah im not getting at you in the slightest, its just there comments. Whistle yeah go for it, but they were a bit out of line in my opinion of what they said... but sure thats all it is, my opinion.

There is a big differnece between a girl getting attention cause she is hot, and getting leered at by a group of scumbags... I don't think anyone wants attention form the Dutch Gold Brigade, but of course women dress provocitivly to attract attention, its just that they don't want to be thought of in horribly improper ways by guys they wouldn;t even want to talk to int he first place.

Its a diffferent story in a nightclub. Some girls love the attention of guys thinking they are sexy, and why shoudn't they! If I was a chick I'd love it. Actually just yesterday I was walking down the street and saw a group of about 5 very pretty (but very young) girls sitting at the side of the road. I happened to be wearing a suit and looked pretty smart, and as I walked by the hottest one who I was admiring looked at me and them shoited "Woooo Sexy!" I just smiled and laughed and kept walking but it made me feel good - but I suppose if you were an "Animal Blond Bird" as you do delecatly put it, getting this all day every day, its going to get a bit annoying...

Turns out its an anthropological trait that has passed over from when we evolved from apes. Like the way a peacock plumes its feathers. We instinctively need to get the womans attention, whom we would view as a possible mate. They did a study into men who where happily married, who would beep their horn at hot women crossing the street. They had no intention of getting out the car and actually engaging in a relationship with the woman but they felt compelled to make their presence known to the lady, and that is all it is. Woman are doing the same dressing so provocatively, they expect male attention, but they don't expect to be harassed for it.

I'd say there are a percentage of woman who appreciate being singled out amongst other woman on the street and whistled at by builders, but they all wouldn't appreciate lewd comments.

I remember my friends advice on looking at woman in provactive clothing, you're allowed to do one up and down and then a nod of approval. Anyway more is perving and any noises made in response is rude.

Would you enjoy it if a load of ugly fat/knacker birds started wolf-whistling at you and telling you they'd ride your face like a pony? Probably not. I doubt it's usually attractive men that do the whistling and shouting (more like fat builders and scangers).

It really depends on the guy. If it's some old drunk just drooling over you, or some obnoxious skanger who had to shout crap at any woman walking by, it's gross. Some guy who looks at you with approval (and doesn't scream "I'd spunk in ya eyes" to impress his friends) when you are looking your best is really pretty nice. It's that man-woman thing; just recognition of being at your prime, or at least looking good.
I remember once walking into a coffeeshop after having a really good sale of my art (that's what I do) and my dress actually looked good, my tummy was nice and flat, my legs looked good, my makeup was great and for once in my life I was having a good hair day, and this very handsome man saw me walk in, stood up from his seat and just sort of stared in admiration smiling and wordless,his mouth hanging open while I got my coffee at the counter. I felt like a million bucks at that point, I had just turned 30 and had been taking ribbing from my girlfriends (as if 30 was old!) and it was just this cool little footnote to a really good day.

There was a building site accross the road from wear I used to get my school bus and we got shouted at every morning in our uniforms, sometimes grand sometimes rotten. Or fellas passing in cars would beep horns etc, but one night I was walking home from the pub, and a guy approached me saying stuff like "Ah I'd love ta ram it up between dem two legs of yores" scared the crap outta me, cuz he's a known perv, but girls under it all generally don't mind a bit of male attention, a wink, a smile, a whistle!

I don't think there is any harm in cat-calling & whistling per se...it's when it crosses the line into a man shouting what he wants to do with her body that it becomes a more serious issue imo....and that is what I was refering to....

"bitch" and "spunk in your eye" are all wildly aggressive remarks to be making although wolf-whistling and cat calling are harmless, i find them fairly disgusting myself and just as ridiculous, if you have to pass a comment do it quietly to your mate instead of shouting it out thinking your actions are in some way cute. She dressed to get some sort of reaction she just got the wrong one.

I suppose the problem a lot of guys have is that this is the response you're going to get from certain male demographics, and we figure if you're going to dress in an attractive manner, (and I'm not saying nor implying anything derisive), you will get a certain amount of that kind of attention, so deal with it.

You can't just expect to get gentlemen callers begging for a spot on your dance card, you're going to get the other kind of caller as well.
