bad service in pubs!

i'm sick of crappy, rude service in dublin pubs.

was in a pub last night, asked the girl if she was serving, cause she was just standing there, she was waiting for some dope to order.

anyway, she got v ratty, and then v smart when she did serve me.

this isn't the first time i've had appaling service in pubs.

you're more likely to spend more in a pub, than a restaurant, and if a waiter carried on like this they'd be sacked.

i know they're not working for tips, but a general level of politeness shouldn't be too much to ask.

i know you get assholés everywhere, and every now and then you'll ring your bank and there'll be a tosser on the other end of the line, or you'll get a rude air hostess....... but it seems that there's so many sh*te bar people.

i understand that they can be dealing with locked people who are v annoying to serve, and i hold my hand up, i've been locked ordering, and in that case, if i'm acting like a twat, then i don't deserve any decent level of service.

last night, it was our 2nd round, and i was quite sober.

as a barman meself all i can say is that is an unacceptable level of service, especially that early in the night.

i have been known to vent anger on drunken customers but only at about 2 am when you have 50 drunken eejits shouting at ya for drink.

tbh i think whoever that barperson was shes not up for the job, clearly not able to put up with the pressure.

I'm not saying all barstaff are thieves, but alot of overcharging and short changing does go on (esp late a night) by SOME barstaff in SOME pubs.

I was in the stags head a while ago and ordered a round. the barman shortchanged me a tenner. I didnt notice at first, went back to my seat, checked the change, figured either the booze was insanely dear or I'd been shortchanged (accidentally of course)

I went back up and politely explained what he'd done, he was very co-operative and apologetic, and was giving me back my tenner when he let slip the following - "I thought you were foreign".

WHAT THE HELL? So this guy rips off foreigners who are probably already finding it insanely dear to go for a pint in the first place and will most likely never come back to that pub (or possibly the country) - yeah thats great practise alright.

Havent been out in town recently but wondering has anyone else noticed an increasing amount of short-changing going on?

edit - and to stay on the topic - yes I have noticed barstaff to be very "not-bothered" these days - hate that practise of serving all the birds at the bar first even if you've been there longer. Whats up with that? Its not as if you're gonna score because you serve some bird a drink before you serve the guy next to her - what are you playing at barguys?

You can get crap service anywhere.....i always find the best thing to do is pick a bar girl and just be nice, be polite, don't shout your order at her, don't drop the change, don't act the maggot and by the 3rd time you go up she is spotting you at the bar and serving you a little early, and by the end of the night will know your drink.

This always works for me anyway....i get some decent service, they get a decent punter who won't give them hassle.

I even got the odd phone number out of it.

This happened to me at Vicar St. two weeks ago. Bought a pint and pocketed the receipt and change. It was only about 10 minutes later when I overheard another customer querying being shortchanged that I realised I had been given change of €10 instead of €20. Of course by then it was too late to complain. I understand how mistakes can happen in a busy pub but find it highly suspicious that it happened twice in 10 mins with the same barmaid.

Cant say I share your experiences of bad service in Pubs. Then again I dont drink in wanky city centre bars, I tend to stick to sawdust-on-the-floor, good-punchup-on-a-saturday-night, lets-go-to-the-chipper afterwards local divebars.

Happened me before someplace, maybe D2, but I knew it was a scam straight off as I didn't have to argue, they just handed over the cash they short changed me without even checking.

Not just in pubs either. I'm not exactly a spend thrift and I don't usually check my change but a mate of mine said he had been shortchanged, various amounts, 5 times in one week (two weeks ago) so I decided the start checking my change. I've been checking my change every time I've been in a shop since Monday and I've already been shortchanged twice. Not good folks. Beware.

Yeah this happens surprisingly often.

A while back in the Portobello a barwoman shortchanged us for a round of drinks to the tune of 20 euro of my mate's money - then tried to argue her way out of it! My mate was f**king livid, and once she realised this salient fact his rightful change was much more forthcoming... Astonishing cheek, tbh.
