So, where are the best places for free WiFi access in Dublin as you have your sambo and coffee?

Looking for some alternative 'office spaces' I can use. If we get a decent list together this might be worth a sticky.

I'd like to know this too - are there any free spots in the city centre that aren't in cafes/bars etc that offer unlimited use? Seems too good to be true if you ask me..

I'm surprised there hasn't been more listed - but i suppose everyone's got broadband at home now - except for me it's buggered.

Starbucks Wi-Fi is *never* free. People seem to think it is, no idea why.

In the US and UK, the Wi-Fi service run by T-mobile. In Ireland it's run by Eircom (at the moment). Standard rates apply, no scratchcards available in the venues, so credit card only.

I went up to the Sandyford Industrial estate the other day and there were a load of secured networks. But also a load of unsecured ones. There are a load of them, it is just a matter of finding them.

Not to be a spoilsport, but shouldn't someone point out that connecting to someone's insecure AP is against the law in Ireland? (Unless of course you've somehow been "authorised" by them to do so).

Not too sure. But if you can get it connected, it should work. You won't need any passwords or anything like that.

It is illegal, but everything is illegal till your caught:D . I have never heard anyone getting in trouble with the law over this. I stand to be corrected on this. Sure they can't prove it was you if you don't live in the area, can they?

People have been done for theft in the US after using someone else's Wi-Fi. Not aware of any cases here yet, but as the Guards are aware of people using other peoples' open Wi-Fi for criminal activities (child porn, warez, etc) I suspect it's only a matter of time.

Itsa Bagel, off Merrion Street (down the lane at the Merrion Hotel), says they offer free Wi-Fi, but when I went in a couple of weeks ago and tried it didn't work and none of the staff working could offer assistance.

Second this - great place for a sandwich or coffee while you do a bit of work on the laptop. It may even become my temporary office!
