i have heard its off - they are in the process of cancelling all their european gigs due to poor ticket sales. Or so i have heard.

Bulsh!t, Where did you hear that? They'll hardly cancle a tour, i'm sure on some they must think of the fans. the Irish concert isn't up on the rollings stones site because of MCD and Aiken have gone through the courts to see who promotes the concert, i'm not sure that this issue has even been rsolved but the rolling stones have said the concert will go ahead and they want aiken to promote it.

it has been resolved. the reason why it's not up yet is the same reason a lot of dates aren't up yet.....I'm sure it'll all be done soon.......

they are still working on the Support's for this by the way.......the Park is a rubbish venue......

I had heard that. Pearl Jam & Motley Crue were to support them in the park. But now I think Pearl Jam are playing Slane and The Crue are supporting GnR.

was talking to someone i know who works in mcd bout concerts over the summer and he said he had heard the stones concerts weren't selling around europe and they were cancelling them and the park prob wouldnt go ahead.

read latest hotpress. article in the news section about rolling stones tour - they talk about uncertainty over the event. i'll try and find an article online bout it.

I've a funny feeling they might be playing Croke Park at the end of July - depends on if this tallys with the tour dates, I know the tour is based around August....

so i heard on the radio the gig is definitely off, it was said that the promoters never secured the event in the first place, strange that since the stones did have it up on their official webpage at one stage. Anyway gigs off....

they seem to be having a lot of hassle with this tour.......but I agree surely a bands website shouldn't have dates listed that haven't been "secured"......or does that just mean they wanted more money.....

Court hears Rolling Stones gig will not be going ahead

The Rolling Stones gig planned for the Phoenix Park this summer is not going ahead.
The band were due to play here in August as part of their Bigger Bang tour.

The High Court heard this morning that the concert will not be happening.

This emerged during discussions in court about proceedings taken by MCD promotions against the OPW decision to award the concert to Aiken promotions.

Meanwhile, MCD has issued a statement saying that it is not attempting to prevent any other competing party or any other event from taking place.

It says that this case was taken by it to highlight the irregular procedures and inconsistencies in the OPW's process for awarding tenders for the commercial use of the Phoenix Park.

Does Billy Joels concert in Croker (announced today) mean thats the quota of gigs is now used up?

Bandy - did you catch the date for that ???

if it's the end of July, then probably, all I know is that they made an application for a permission for a date at the end of July along with the Robbie Williams and Bon Jovi gigs.......not sure what their quota is this year though...

eh, no, it had nothing to do with MCD's sour grapes. Rolling Stones applied to have a public gig, which the Office of Public Works deals with, OPW went to MCD got details off them, strung them along so far, then went with Aiken. MCD went to the high court to say that this was illegal, which the High Court is still considering, and MCD could well win apparently.

the gig would have gone ahead no matter what happened in the court case.

the truth is that Rolling Stones pulled out of the gig and decided to go to Spain instead. the court case and it's outcome had zero effect on the gig not going ahead.

also, from the admin on the Oxegen board who works for mcd:

alright i'm sick of people saying this, (i know your not all of the same opinion). But i've been reading a steady stream of abuse coming into the mcd email address from irrational losers.

First of all the info in the other thread about the Stones not wanting to play Phoenix Park is accurate. A little birdy told them that it wasn't a great venue. And they made the decison themselves.

The reason for MCD's objection is that the way the tenders were allocated was not fair. I'm not posting the details of this objection until it's resolved in the courts.
