What to do/where to go with your significant other (A Definitive List!)
Every so often a thread appears somewhere on boards with a fellow boardster looking for advice information on where to go or what to do with their partner. We can all think of the obvious ones such as the cinema or the restaurant, but some people like myself aren't entirely original and have problems looking past the few obvious suggestions.
I thought it might be handy if there was a thread where people could recommend things they've done or places they've gone with their significant other which would be a benefit to others. I'll start the ball rolling so:
The Cinema
With Cineworld on Parnell Street you can pay €17.50 a month for their card and watch as many movies as you want, day or night.
The Theatre
There are many fine theatres in this city of ours and while it's not to everyone's taste, it's at least worth trying once. I know my SO has been on at me every so often to bring her and I've yet to do it...shame on me! I'm not the most cultured so I may get the list wrong, but we have theatres such as the abbey, the olympia, the gaiety, andrews lane and the gate. You'll also win major brownie points!
Restaurants
Whether your pockets are overflowing or your somewhat strapped for cash it's possible to find somwhere for everyone. With the large chinese community in dublin now there are a few good places to eat, a particuarly good one being China Red I think it's called on Parnell Street. A good main course with a decent portion should cost you less than €10.
There is also a really nice Italian on Parliment Street just past the Oxfam book shop. You can get Pizza/Pasta and a bottle of red wine for about €10 if your early.
Museums
Not the most interesting places in the world for many, but they are free, well most of them anywhoo and there are alot of them in town. I'm afraid my knowledge of them is somewhat limited, so perhaps someone could go into more detail.
There is the national museum in Collins Barracks. It's huge with lots and lots to see and it's free. There is also the museum of modern art near Heuston train station. While it's not the best there is also the Wax Works, but that's closed until march I believe.
Shopping
Most women like this, it's pretty undeniable and you will win major brownie points for feigning your interest in this. They like new clothes and they like it when it's not them paying for it. A bit of retail therapy is always good. In between letting her buy what she wants you can always drop in a suggestion or two as to what you'd like her to buy!
Days Out
There are several places you can go on days out, Howth and Bray being particuarly nice. You can always bring a small picnic, and they are both beside the sea, making for nice photographs. You can also visit the National Stud and Japanese grardens in Kildare. I've been there and didn't find it anything amazing, but some people seem to think it's amazing.
Can You Play Pool/Snooker?
I know my SO can't play either, and while I play badly I think it'd be fun to try and teach her. Granted these places do seem to be frequented by Sc*mmers, but there are one or two places in town that aren't. And in the end it's good craic and fairly cheap.
Local Bars/Hotels
I know I have one or two local bars that I don't visit all that often that are actually quite nice. In particular we quiet like the bar in our local hotel. It's quiet, clean and atmospheric. It's hard to beat a bit of live music.
Go For A Drive
If you have a car, I don't!, then go for a drive. We live in a scenic little country and there are many fine places out in the country. Wicklow is a great place to go for a drive with some spectacular scenery and miles from anywhere urban, it's good to get some fresh air into your lungs!!!
Adult Fun
You know this had to be mentioned. The kind of fun only an adult can have is amazing and if you delve a bit deeper into it it's astonishing what you can do. Go into easons and pick up a book. Be a bit more adventurous!
That's pretty much all I can think of right now. Please add to the thread to help those who might be stuck for something to do. If you know somewhere great to go add it in here. If you have an idea for something fun or adventurous you know where to add it!
Regards,
Liam
