my mate got it done few years back and no problems at all, he has no regrets or ill effects. Savin up to get it done myself now, it's usually 450 per eye.

but i wouldn't advise lookin for the cheapest one as we are on about your sight here

Er....450 per eye? That in euro? You're talking about closer to €2,000 per eye if you get it done in Ireland.

€1,000 per eye. Your eye perscription must not have changed in 2 years (I think: may be longer). Also, it depends where you get it done.

Strongly recommend you get it done here if at at all possible/affordable.

This treatment is very new and for that reason all the side affects have not yet even been discovered. There can be major complications and many patients have actaully gone completely blind 4-5 years down the line due to the treatment. I would not blow that amount of money on a treatment that is basically still in its testing stage.

Its not that new.. how old does a procedure have to be to be not be new any more? I mean laser surgury has been around for at least 10 years and PRK using a scalpel etc (no laster) has been around decades. Its so its not that new. I got mine done almost 4 years ago now. It was early 2002.

Anyway Vivas health now cover eye surgury, not sure how much they pay for.. check out the site.

Absolutely good advice, rolling the dice with your sight is completely crazy, glasses are cheap and effective and there is utterly no social stigma about them..heck some people look better/more attractive with them on!!

Really wouldnt touch this with a barge pole unless was done by a leader in the field if it is a new proceedure, or if its not..at least get it done here where the docs are regulated properly unlike some far off country where you have no come back if things go wrong.

10 years is very new actaully, it has not even been tested over a humans full lifespan, around 80 to 90 years. The fact is many people have gone completely blind due to the treatment, doctors still do not understand many of its side affects. Crazy IMO to spend that huge amount of money on something that has not been tested fully yet, not worth risking your eye sight

had it done 4 years ago...still not blind.

My best friend's mother had it done about 3 weeks ago....
... Now she is the most nervous and squemish person I have ever met!!!
It cost her €5000 for both eyes... she had to have more extensive laser treatment done because her eyes were so bad!! ... She said it didn't hurt one bit the only thing she is annoyed about is that she can't wear make up for a month!! :eek:
She said it was worth every penny!!... If you think you would benefit from not having to wear glasses... I would seriously consider having it done!!

... Oh by the way she can see perfectly now!!... Forgot the most important bit!!! duhh!:rolleyes:

My dad has just had it done last week. He was obviously in pain for a bit and it was very uncomfortable for a few days but he had been wearing glasses since he was about 10 and now 40 years later he can see for the first time without glasses.

Amazing when you think about it, im going to get it done when im old enough, I think they are allowing you to get it done when you are 21 but it depends on the stablitly of your prescription.

That being said I have heard bad stories about the repercussions, such as having to use eye drops for the rest of your life etc. It all comes down to how much you want it done, is it worth the risk for you?

i'd stil be careful though. i was reading bout a survey recently, and almost half the people who get it done cant see in the dark. like if they go to the cinema they cant see, they could only go to a play if the lights were really bright. and ya couldnt drive in the dark.

then again, a lot of people come out fine.

Its professionally done for quite a bit cheaper, father had it done there. Its hardly unrealistic to assume you might be getting over-charged for it, living in Ireland as we do. I'd advise the original poster to keep it in mind, flights to Vilnius are quite cheap too.

What a well timed thread. I had my second surgery just yesterday in the Wellington. It was almost a full year from my first one when I had both eyes done. The result a year ago was suberb, but the left eye never quite managed the level of vision that I achieved in the right, so the good folks at the Wellington gave me what's called an 'enhancement' to the left eye. That was at 11:45am yesterday and today after my checkup I was able to drive down to Cavan to see my folks and have abosolutely no trouble with it.

The thing to do is think about it carefully, most of the clinics will send you a brochure or even dvd where you can see exactly what will happen to you and the risks are well explained.

Getting it done here is expensive but don't forget that you will also need to attend regular checkups, 1 day, 2 - 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months and 12 months. Getting it done anywhere else means travelling for those checkups which quickly adds to the cost.

Also, I had tried to get it done in Belfast where it's almost half the price, but the clinic up there was not as professional as the Wellington. Belfast told me that I was not a suitable candidate after they took out a pencil and ripped a page from a notebook to make calculations on the thickness of the corneas in my eyes. Where-as in the Wellington this is measured with a very fancy ultrasound type wand, the difference is chalk and cheese and don't forget that it's your eyes, is it really worh cutting corners?

I can highly recommend the Wellington, their care and attention to detail is fantastic and at all times you feel safe and comfortable and well looked after. My surgeon was Arthur Cummings and during my visit with him today I actually told him that his mannerisms made me feel comfortable and confident in his ability to do the job. These guys are really experts and that's what you want when you are considering this kind of treatment.

i went to london to see opticalexpress.com lovely people ran many tests,it was free,they explained everything.unfortunatly i had the wrong perscrription and they werent taking any chances.which was nice to know.when i sort my perscription out i can go back in 9months for another free consultation.i was impressed by them it worked out as €1200 for both eyes which is amazing compared to the €3000 here for the two.
