Just wondering how many people on boards still use dialup, and how much per month they are paying for it..., cos i reckon i'm getting screwed over, since i'm paying on average 50 yoyo's a month, for a very poor dialup service, and the max d/l speed i get is 5 kb/s....

and i thought broadband at 45 euro seemed expensive!

(its a pity i live in a country, where the national telecoms company are bunch of tightfisted miserable , starved pricks, who don't give a shyte about their customers,...:mad: )

broadband at my home for uni but back home it is dial up for 30 a month(150 hours a month) so we pay between 30 and several hundred a month because of everybody using it.Oh and max dl i got was 3kps.
I think broadband at 25e a month is a good option I took

If I was back at my home in Sligo, I'd be using 56K, 15 Euro's for 50 hours a month. My fastest connection was between 45 - 50K, and it was constantly at that speed for the last two months I was in Ireland. Not too bad.

ahh, capitalism and private industry, you gotta love it, take the money screw the customers and run, that lovely senator Mary O'Rourke landed us all in the sh*t when she and her Fianna Fail/pds government privatised and f8cked up Eircom, Her constituents thanked her for it and gave her the political kick up the behind she deserved, anyone remember the Telecom Eireann floatation, £3.07 a share, they are now worth €2.30. If that had never happened i guarantee there would be 100% broadband coverage and tv service available into every house over the copper network, besides having Sky ripping the nation off with €30.50 per month to view the RTE's and TV3 the total cost of viewing these FTA terrestrial channels if you are in a poor aerial signal strength area is €366 which goes to Sky and €150 to RTE in the licence fee, the total cost being €516. Oh yes please go ahead and vote for Fianna Fail and the PD's next election time. Next it will be privatising the Water system and we will all be paying per litre, even when more than we use falls from the sky regularly.

I recall about 2 yrs back before my local excahnge became DSL enabled, I used to play an MMORPG on 56k (about 42k)....two-monthly phone bills often came in at in and around the €250-300 mark (1.2c per min + renatla and calls).
I was on DSL (IOL) for a month when €ircon introduced flat rate dial-up packages...still with BT 2mb. DSL is still way overpriced in this country...but it's still a lot less than what people used have to pay...I really feel bad for those who can't getBB...

I'm afraid you'd have to pay it too, providing you pay tax here. Essential service like this should never have been thrown into the lion's den that is private enterpirse. Do you think that a foregin owned company is interested in providing Broadband to the people needing it, say in the hills of Mayo or wherever. all private enterpirs want is money and to hell with the consumer.

The country is awash with money and if the rich payed a bit more lots of thing could be possible. Why is it that half the country has this idea that we are stuck in 1845 and the potato famine is looming when it come to public spending. I say raise taxes, kick out Intel and dell and bring some decent low-skills jobs for the masses and to hell with those in Dublin 4 with their €1million 100sq ft houses and bring the money, and services to the masses and the people. A fairer social policy would do this country a lot of good and end capitalism driven greed and a society of class.

Private Industry and Capitalism is why the majority of people don't have access's to broadband and this won't change until the governments does.

Was paying about the same or more (sometimes MUCH more) for my Internet-only phone bill when I had dial-up. There was no Broadband available to me at the time... never happy when that bill came in

Im on esat bt anytime too...not bad at 26.50 a month for 180 hrs...dont think I have ever been over my limit

But it annoys me that you can get 2MB broadband in UK for £10 a month and here am I in the sticks on dialup...takes me about 40 mins to download a BBC podcast...I leave it when I am making tea and toast so I dont have to watch the timer going down...!

Ha ha, I'm on the college local area network which I'm supposed to be paying €15/month for and I'm getting it for free, I'm not asking any questions. Download speeds are up to 1.5mb/s. Also I'm picking up 2 wireless networks in my room. Haven't tried them yet since I only got a wireless lan card yesterday.

Who in Uk is doing broadband 2mb for £10 a month? I work for a broadband service provider and have not heard of anywhere near that figure for 2mb. Lowest in here is £17.99 a month for 1/2 mb!

This is all bullshít about Eircom only being bad since it was privatised. If that is the case then why isn't ISDN available to you rather than dialup. ISDN was available well before the float.
